<p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Assist the instructor in teaching various levels of swim lessons through preparation of lesson plans, taking attendance, anticipating equipment use, and following modeling/ direction given </li><li>Ability to instruct and demonstrate the fundamentals of swimming and diving </li><li>Be a positive role model for students </li><li>Encourage children to participate in activities through positive reinforcement </li><li>Perform set- up and take- down of program related equipment </li><li>Conduct class with proper student discipline and enthusiasm </li><li>Use safety techniques to properly instruct students </li><li>Communicate with lead instructor and/or supervisor regarding any student/parent issues </li></ul> <p>OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment </li><li>Communicate clearly and effectively with parents and/or participants </li><li>Attend all required staff meetings and trainings </li><li>Work closely with the Parks and Recreation Department staff and volunteers to ensure all department rules and policies are observed </li><li>Perform facility maintenance duties as determined by Pool Manager, Facilities Personnel, and Recreation Programmer </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE: Knowledge and/or background of the specific program</p> <ul> <li>Current Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED certifications preferred </li><li>Experience working with children </li><li>Physically capable of performing and demonstrating program related activities </li><li>Able to work duration of the program as assigned by supervisor </li><li>Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff members and the public in a courteous and tactful manner </li><li>Shall wear Parks and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code </li></ul> <p>Minimum Age:   15 years old</p> <p>Employment Season:  September - May</p> <p>Work Location:   Appleton West and East Pools</p> <p>Pay Grade: 3</p>
