<p>GENERAL MAINTENANCE</p> <p>Wilkes County Schools provides a robust variety of state and local benefit offerings that include but are not limited to health insurance, annual leave, sick leave, holiday pay, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, state pension plan, and other ancillary benefits. Benefit eligibility is determined by job status and percentage of employment. In addition, Wilkes County Schools offers a local salary supplement of 5%.</p> <p>NATURE OF WORK</p> <p>Employees perform a moderate to large variety of duties in the maintenance, and repair of structural, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work requires interpretation of prepared sketches, diagrams, schematics, and blueprints. Work assignments are performed in accordance with accepted practices. Employees resolve most problems independently, except for work of an unusual nature, in which a supervisor may be consulted. Errors in work could cause serious consequences, such as loss of human life and facilities. Employees receive limited supervision.</p> <p>ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK</p> <p>Tests malfunctioning plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems and equipment.</p> <p>Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs plumbing, wiring, electrical devices, machinery and equipment, masonry etc.</p> <p>Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduit.</p> <p>Draws wire through conduit and completes necessary splicing, soldering, and application of friction tape.</p> <p>Installs and connects equipment to wiring systems.</p> <p>Replaces damaged or broken water lines, duct, wires and cables.</p> <p>Works with others to replace faulty electrical components, plumbing equipment and HVAC equipment.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES</p> <p>Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in plumbing, HVAC and electrical installation, maintenance and repair work.</p> <p>Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to repair work.</p> <p>Ability to locate and correct defects in plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems and equipment.</p> <p>Ability to understand and work from blueprints, schematics, sketches or pencil drawings.</p> <p>Ability to follow oral or written instructions.</p> <p>SUGGESTED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE</p> <p>Considerable experience in performing most of the tasks associated with plumbing, electrical and HVAC work.</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>This employee will need to have working knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC mechanical systems as well as hold a Class B CDL and a recovery license based on State requirements as directed by the North Carolina Board of Electrical Examiners.</p> <p>This specification has been designed to represent the general nature and level of work found in positions in this class.
