<p>Rosamond Gifford Zoo</p> <p>Full-Time Keeper Position - Birds</p> <p>The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is looking for a highly motivated individual interested in a full-time keeper position in the Bird Department. Two years of experience in a zoological institution, preferably AZA-accredited, is required. Applicant must possess a valid driver's license. A four-year degree in one of the natural sciences or a closely related field is preferred. A working knowledge of the science of avian husbandry is essential.</p> <p>Qualified individuals will be expected to assist in the care of the animal collection under the supervision of Collection Managers and the General Curator.</p> <p>SPECIFIED DUTIES FOR THIS POSITON:</p> <ul> <li>Carries out all aspects of the daily care of assigned animals including cleaning, feeding, exhibit maintenance, and general upkeep of support facilities. </li><li>Maintains clean and organized exhibits, equipment, and keeper areas. </li><li>Maintains live exhibit plantings to enhance exhibit aesthetics and provide a comfortable environment for animals; eliminates weeds and toxic plants from animal enclosures. </li><li>In conjunction with the Zoo's pest control officer, may assist in pest control through the use of exclusion or traps. </li><li>Prepares and feeds appropriate diets as per established feeding practices and diet sheets. </li><li>Administers prescribed medications, supplements, or treatments under the guidance of the veterinary and supervisory staff. </li><li>Records and reports any abnormal animal health or behavioral issues to the Collection Manager. </li><li>Maintains daily reports, logs, research or veterinary records, as appropriate and according to established guidelines; requires basic skills with Microsoft Office software applications with the use of ZIMS global record system. </li><li>Public Education through avian-specific keeper chats and daily interaction with zoo visitors. </li><li>Must have the ability to cope with the physical demands of the profession (i.e. must be able to lift 50 pounds, work outside in all seasons/weather, stand for prolonged periods of time, etc.) </li></ul> <p>How to Apply</p> <p>Qualified (see job description) individuals should send a resume, including education and relevant experience; cover letter with statement of personal goals; and two professional references to danmeates@ongov.net.</p> <p>Rosamond Gifford Zoo</p> <p>1 Conservation Place</p> <p>Syracuse, NY 13204</p> <p>Phone: (315)435-8511</p> <p>Fax: (315)435-8517</p> <p>Visit our website</p>
