In this role, you will lead pharmacy technician supervisors and pharmacist interns, driving operational excellence, fostering engagement, and building a strong talent pipeline during a transformative period. Step into a role where bold leadership meets groundbreaking opportunity-impacting patient care at one of the nation's leading academic hospitals.</p> <p>What's Ahead:</p> <ul> <li>Implementation of advanced technology and automation </li><li>Activation of our state-of-the-art hospital in Kamin Tower </li><li>Accreditation of our technician training program </li></ul> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Operational Leadership: Design and improve pharmacy services for safe, efficient, and cost-effective medication use. </li><li>Talent Development: Lead internship programs and technician workforce strategy. Mentor interns and guide supervisors to foster growth, retention, and a strong talent pipeline. </li><li>Compliance & Quality: Ensure regulatory compliance and integrate quality improvement principles into daily operations. </li><li>Staff & Budget Management: Recruit and mentor the development of high-performing teams. Oversee scheduling and manage operational costs. </li><li>Collaboration & Innovation: Partner with clinical leaders, support education and research, and champion adoption of new technologies. </li></ul> <p>Join a team that values integrity, innovation, and professional growth-and help us deliver world-class care to every patient, every time.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Design and implement operational services, including dispensing and compounded product preparation, which support the pharmacists' provision of pharmaceutical care. </li><li>Maintain productive, collaborative relationships with physicians, nurses, departmental managers and others in clinical leadership roles to achieve short and long-term goals for related programs and clinical services. </li><li>Develop, implement, direct and monitor the delivery of pharmaceutical care. Ensure patient/customer satisfaction and implements measures to correct perceived deficiencies in care and service. </li><li>Facilitate staff involvement in established departmental programs, e.g. quality improvement, patient/professional education and staff development. Develop staff advancement opportunities and fosters an environment conducive to innovation and progressive learning. </li><li>Promote, support and conduct research related to practice. </li><li>Integrate the distributive and cognitive aspects of pharmaceutical care. </li><li>Assist with the recruitment, hiring and mentors staff and colleagues through feedback, positive discipline and performance evaluations. Enforce progressive corrective action appropriately. </li><li>Ensure provision of cost-effective drug therapy through analysis of patient outcomes; validate that care is provided according to current standards of practice; support and monitor the quality improvement program. </li><li>Maintain a current body of knowledge in the areas of their service with regard to drug therapy and technology. Complete all staff pharmacist competencies. </li><li>Schedule pharmacists to effectively cover the hours of operations of the pharmacy as well as on call hours. </li><li>Assure pharmacy is in compliance with all federal and state regulations. </li><li>Assist with the preparation and monitor the budget for areas of responsibility, including drug, purchased services and personnel costs. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>B.S. degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D.) from an accredited school of pharmacy required. </li><li>Three years of experience in a broad range of pharmacy operational, clinical, or administrative pharmacy practice OR completion of an HSPAL postgraduate pharmacy residency required. </li></ul> <p>Preferences:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in pharmacy administration or healthcare management (MS, MBA, MHA) preferred. </li><li>PGY-1 postgraduate pharmacy residency preferred. </li><li>Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification preferred. </li><li>Prior inpatient pharmacy leadership experience preferred. </li></ul> <p>Department Preferences:</p> <ul> <li>Hospital pharmacy operations expertise </li><li>Proven leadership and team-building capabilities with experience managing diverse teams </li><li>Strong communicator and collaborator across teams </li><li>Skilled in workflow analysis and efficiency improvements </li><li>Regulatory compliance and medication safety proficiency </li><li>Data-driven decision-making and performance analysis </li><li>Adaptable in transitions and stabilization phases </li></ul> <p>Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:</p> <ul> <li>Pharmacist </li></ul> <p>UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran</p>
