<p>TITLE: Maintenance Apprentice</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance of Facilities and designee</p> <p>FLSA: Non-exempt</p> <p>GRADE: M</p> <p>WORK CALENDAR: 253</p> <p>FTE: 1.0</p> <p>REVISED DATE: 12/13/2007</p> <p>SUMMARY: Provide students and staff a safe and properly maintained environment in which to learn and develop. Apprentice will learn the trades to become certified and move into a skilled maintenance position when available.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Apprentice will generally work with skilled maintenance but will be assigned some tasks individually. Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following:</p> <ul> <li>Maintains, cleans and adjusts heating and air conditioning units, exhaust systems, blowers, pumps and condensers, generators, air compressors and other such equipment as associated with HVAC systems. </li><li>Performs preventative maintenance as directed and keeps accurate records. </li><li>Diagnosis trouble and performs assembly, disassembly and adjustments on a variety of electrical equipment repairing and replacing motors, switches, contracts, relays, solenoids, electric tools, light fixtures, ballasts, heating elements in furnaces, energy management system, and other electrical work. </li><li>Diagnosis and trouble shoots breakdowns. Disassemble, locate worn or broken parts and replace on all types of equipment. </li><li>Read schematics, layout lighting circuits, and wire up machinery. </li><li>Performs mechanical maintenance on equipment. Replace defective or worn out parts, including gears, shafts, bearings, belts, chains, etc. </li><li>Maintains existing plumbing and fixtures and installs new plumbing fixtures. </li><li>Cleans and drains clogged sewer lines. </li><li>Performs maintenance work on all doors, windows, latches, defective closing and locking mechanisms; repair, replace and return in good working order. </li><li>Performs replacement work such as changing ceiling titles, floor tiles, base coverings, carpeting, paneling, etc. </li><li>Maintains, repairs, and replaces desks, chairs, stools. Performs maintenance and repair work on a variety of building items such as masonry, carpentry, roof patching, etc. </li><li>Keeps work area and equipment clean and in an orderly condition. </li><li>Makes time available when called upon in emergency situations to work other than their normal working hours if essential to do so. </li><li>Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and Facilities, Assistant Director of Maintenance or assigned Skilled Maintenance Technician. </li><li>Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors. </li><li>Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality. </li><li>Other job related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:</p> <p>To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or G.E.D. </li><li>Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC) </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Requires a working knowledge and experience preferred in carpentry, plumbing, general building maintenance, electrical, and HVAC. </li><li>Must have a valid Arizona driver's license with clean driving record. </li></ul> <p>Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals. </li><li>Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others. </li><li>Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. </li><li>Ability to interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms. </li><li>Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
