<p>General Statement of Duties</p> <p>The Transition Specialist will work in conjunction with NHREC Special Education Teachers to develop and implement transition plans, assessments and services. It shall be the responsibility of the Transition Specialist to help organize, implement, and supervise job-training experiences/sites for students with varying disabilities and EFE skill levels. The Transition Specialist will provide consultation, training, and support to teachers and assist with Adult Services linkages for students.</p> <p>The Transition Specialist will coordinate New Horizons Regional Educational Centers' Transition Programs for eligible Newport Academy and Center for Autism students.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li> <p>Monitor and oversee all aspects of Education for Employment (EFE) transition services programs including Level IV community job sites, Level III school-based enterprises (EFE Kitchen, Workshop, and School Store), Level II school jobs, and CBIs related to transition</p> </li><li> <p>Develop transition programs and partnerships with community agencies and businesses to plan educational activities and training for students</p> </li><li> <p>Confer with community agencies and businesses to communicate program objectives, identify student training opportunities, establish accommodations, and adapt activities to meet student needs</p> </li><li> <p>Plan and coordinate student course schedules in collaboration with School Psychologists and Coordinators prior to beginning of school year.</p> </li><li> <p>Determine and monitor EFE Staff and student schedules and job site assignments, making changes as needed</p> </li><li> <p>Visit and observe all EFE programs and job sites monthly to monitor student progress, training/instructional procedures, and business partner requirements</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee and arrange transportation for students to and from job sites</p> </li><li> <p>Develop instructional objectives and maintain records including ongoing assessments, progress reporting and grading for EFE programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate and facilitate staff training, referrals, and implementation of new programs and opportunities for students</p> </li><li> <p>Career Readiness Certificate- ACT WorkKeys Testing oversight</p> </li><li> <p>Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS/DARS)</p> </li><li> <p>Project SEARCH</p> </li><li> <p>WWRC (Wilson Workforce Rehabilitation Center)</p> </li><li> <p>Community Services Board (CSB) services</p> </li><li> <p>SMART transition portfolios (TWC Foundation)</p> </li><li> <p>CTECS - Workplace Readiness Skills Curriculum</p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Education, Training and Experience Requirements</p> <ul> <li>A Master's degree in Special Education is preferred. </li><li>Work experience with students with ID, autism, ED, or other disabilities. </li><li>Must meet the Virginia Department of Education licensure eligibility requirements, and be eligible for, or in possession of an appropriate Virginia teaching license. </li><li>Virginia Drivers License, CDL preferred </li><li>Familiarity with web-based IEP applications, iep.online preferred. </li><li>Strong knowledge and work experience in the areas of IDEA and state regulations related to transition planning for special needs students, evidence-based practices for assessment and instruction of students with disabilities (ED, Autism, ID), Federal Labor laws, and IEP/ITP development. Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to initiate, organize and oversee multiple projects/sites. </li></ul>
