Join us in fostering a community that values excellence and the holistic development of our students.</p> <p>Purpose</p> <p>The Business Director is responsible for leading and managing the financial operations for the Office of the Dean of Students. This position plays a critical role in strategic financial planning, resource allocation, and fiscal oversight to ensure the department operates efficiently and aligns with institutional goals. The Business Director assists the Lead Team with human resource functions within Workday. The Business Director acts as a key advisor to the Dean on financial and provides data-driven insights and recommendations to support informed decision-making. This position requires a focus on collaboration, innovative strategy, and efficient processes to ensure that the Office of the Dean of Students provides effective and impactful services to support and engage all students.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Leadership</p> </li><li> <p>Provide leadership as a lead team member of the Office of the Dean of Students, working directly with the Dean of Students and other lead members to establish strategic goals and make decisions. Apprise group of pertinent business and financial information, provide counsel, and be responsive to affiliated goals of professional staff members. Assist the lead team with Workday functions related to human resources.</p> </li><li> <p>Budget Development and Financial Planning</p> </li><li> <p>Lead the development, management, and monitoring of the department's annual budget, ensuring alignment with university policies and priorities.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide financial forecasts, multi-year budget planning, and variance analyses to support strategic planning efforts.</p> </li><li> <p>Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation while maintaining financial sustainability.</p> </li><li> <p>Continuously assess and enhance financial workflows, reporting structures, and budgetary processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.</p> </li><li> <p>Stay informed of industry trends, university policies, and financial regulations that impact departmental operations.</p> </li><li> <p>Lead the adoption of new financial tools and technologies that enhance budget planning and financial analysis capabilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Financial Oversight and Advising</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor expenditures, reconcile financial records, and ensure compliance with university policies, state and federal regulations, and grant requirements.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop and implement internal financial controls to safeguard departmental resources.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare and review financial reports, ensuring accuracy and timely submission to university leadership and stakeholders.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as a financial consultant to department leadership, providing analysis and recommendations on budgetary matters, financial risks, and funding strategies.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with university finance offices, grants management teams, and other administrative units to ensure consistency and best practices in financial operations.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervision</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee a senior administrative associate focused on departmental finances and human resources functions.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee the student government financial advisor and provide direction for financial processes for student governance organizations, including student organization funding allocation, scholarship funds, reconciliation, and compliance.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide training and functional oversight for departmental leadership regarding budgeting procedures.</p> </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field. At least eight years of experience in financial management, budgeting, or accounting, preferably in higher education or a complex organizational setting. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic recommendations. Proficiency in financial reporting systems, spreadsheets, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders. Experience supervising administrative staff.</p> <p>Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Master's degree in business administration, finance, public administration, or a related field. Experience in university budget planning and financial operations. Experience with UT System financials and processes. Knowledge of fund accounting, grants management, and higher education financial regulations.
