<p>Under the direction of the Director of Systems, the Senior Desktop Engineer will be responsible for managing and driving new innovation, evaluating and implementing new technologies, managing advanced desktop management tools and serving as an escalation point for support for University-owned desktops, laptops and mobile devices. This position will be part of the University Systems and Networking team that supports and manages the IT infrastructure of the University.</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <p>PRINCIPAL DUTIES:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Creates, designs, maintains and enhances the University's end-user compute devices which includes creating specification for laptops, desktops and mobile devices.</p> </li><li> <p>Works with the Director of Systems to create the back end design and support for our new Virtualized Desktop environment. Responsible for the implementation and support of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.</p> </li><li> <p>Manages, monitors, maintains, and enhances the University's endpoint protection software to maintain compliance, including but not limited to, endpoint encryption, Antivirus, Antimalware, EDR and threat detection and prevention that adheres to the University Cyber Security Policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with the development and management of Microsoft Windows and MacOS configuration management tools and systems to improve Computing Services support processes and improve customer satisfaction.</p> </li><li> <p>Enhance the macOS computing environment to equalize all University Apple devices to be parallel to all University Windows devices.</p> </li></ol> <p>15/202</p> <ol start="6"> <li> <p>Assists with the specification, development, documentation, deployment, and maintenance of the staff, faculty and computer lab software images, including the deployment of operating system updates.</p> </li><li> <p>Works closely with the Computer Services Department to mitigate risks on conditions or events that warrant any concern or indicate unnecessary exposure or vulnerability of desktop equipment and facilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitors and tests application performance for potential bottlenecks, identifies possible solutions, and works to implement those fixes through the Change Management Process.</p> </li><li> <p>Continues to support distribution of software, fixes, changes, upgrades and patch of desktop/laptop computers through Ivanti and Jamf.</p> </li><li> <p>Liaises with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains the University's Software Catalog on our IT Website.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists the support teams responsible for support of all desktop and laptop computers used in the computer labs, staff and faculty offices.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides senior level design and engineering for new systems and other projects for both the Apple and Microsoft environments.</p> </li><li> <p>Responsible for daily administration duties of systems, including but not limited to ,account maintenance, performance management, error resolution, back-ups, and restores.</p> </li></ol> <p>. Continues to enhance and maintain the University backup solution, Code42 and provide support for Computing Services.</p> <ol start="16"> <li> <p>Follows Change Management process for all changes to production systems, including documenting all changes made to systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides end-user support, which includes the resolution of support tickets assigned to the department.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains broad technical knowledge of current and emerging technologies.</p> </li><li> <p>Flexibility to work required hours to address critical department needs, On-Call 24 hours per day, 365 days per year with defined response time 24 hours, except when on vacation.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other tasks as deemed necessary by the Director of Systems.</p> </li></ol> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ol> <li> <p>BS/BA in Computer Science, Management Information Systems preferred or equivalent work experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum of five years of work experience managing and supporting enterprise desktops in a mixed Window and Macintosh environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Working knowledge and demonstrable experience in creating, testing and deploying complex desktop and laptop images using tools such as Microsoft Deployment Services, Jamf or Broadcom Ghost.</p> </li><li> <p>Administrative experience using desktop configuration management tools (e.g. ZENWORKS, LANDesk, Team Viewer) for remote support and management.</p> </li><li> <p>Understanding of desktop management processes and tools.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience administering desktop management and security tools (i.e. SCCM, WSUS, Landesk, etc).</p> </li><li> <p>Experience with Microsoft Active directory, Group policy management,</p> </li><li> <p>Experience utilizing virtual desktop software packages and platforms. (i.e..VMware Fusion, VMWare Horizon, Citrix XenDesktop).</p> </li><li> <p>Experience managing and overseeing Mobile Device Management tools to control, secure and enforce polices on smartphones, tablets, or other mobile endpoints.</p> </li><li> <p>Experiencing navigating a Microsoft Windows or Linux Server environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of Enterprise and Cyber security concepts such as Demarcation zones (DMZs), firewalls, proxies, Certificate management and Single Sign-on (SSO) concepts</p> </li><li> <p>Proficient in various scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, Perl.</p> </li><li> <p>Industry certifications (i.e., A+, MCP, MCSE, MCDST) a plus.</p> </li><li> <p>Working knowledge of ITSM frameworks and best practices. ITIL Foundations Certification a plus.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to interface and communicate effectively, including specifications and requirements authoring.</p> </li><li> <p>Must possess strong analytical skills, excellent oral and written communicative skills, be a quick learner, self-motivated, patient, and be able to work in stressful situations, and at times, be available to work flexible hours. Initiative, creativity and decision making are required.</p> </li><li> <p>Effective organizational and project management skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in a higher education computing environment preferred, but not required.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to multi-task in a rapidly changing environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Willing to work late evenings and weekend hours as required in support of daily operations.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies.</p> </li><li> <p>Valid driver's license and accessibility to transportation for travel between campuses and to off-site locations.</p> </li></ol> <p>Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.
