<p>ORGANIZATION: SHELTER, Inc. is an independent, community-based non-profit organization created in 1986 to lead the effort to eliminate homelessness. We currently operate in Contra Costa, Marin, Solano and Sacramento counties.</p> <p>MISSION: To prevent and end homelessness among low-income, homeless, and disadvantaged families and individuals by providing housing services, support and resources that lead to self-sufficiency.</p> <p>JOB TITLE: House Leader</p> <p>LOCATION: Antioch, CA</p> <p>STATUS: Non-exempt/Part Time - 20 hours a week, flexible hours</p> <p>COMPENSATION: $16.50/ hour + Free bedroom onsite at property with shared bathroom</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Property Manager</p> <p>PURPOSE of ROLE: Responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment for residents in a residential facility, such as a transitional living facility, homeless shelter, or youth center. Ensures the well-being of residents by providing support, enforcing house rules and policies, and responding to residents' needs and emergencies. This position typically involves interaction with residents, managing and documenting resident activities and behaviors, and collaborating with other staff members and service providers. Lives onsite at property with no rent.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Enforces house rules, policies, and safety protocols to maintain order and a positive living environment. </li><li>Manage any overnight concerns with residents and respond to emergencies as needed. </li><li>Assist with moving of furniture and housewares for move-ins/outs and deliveries. </li><li>Conducts regular checks of facility areas to ensure safety, security, and cleanliness, and notify supervisor of any repairs needed in a timely manner. </li><li>Documents observations of residents' activities, including incident reports as necessary. </li><li>Interacts professionally and appropriately with residents, de-escalating conflicts and addressing any issues that arise. </li><li>Collaborates with other staff, including social workers and case managers, to address resident issues. </li><li>Completes necessary paperwork, including daily logs, incident reports, and other documentation accurately and in a timely manner. </li><li>Maintains the cleanliness and order of the residence. </li><li>Participates in required training and staff meetings. </li></ul> <p>EXPECTED PROFICIENCIES:</p> <ul> <li>Effective communication (written and verbal), administrative, and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Maintain an above average working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards. </li><li>Computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office). </li><li>Knowledge of the needs of the resident population (e.g., homeless individuals, youth, individuals in recovery) is often preferred. </li><li>Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain a professional demeanor, and handle crisis situations calmly and effectively. </li><li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team. </li><li>Ability to work well with individuals from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. </li><li>De-escalation and conflict resolution skills a plus. </li><li>Good judgment and work independently. </li><li>High level of integrity and strong ethics and values; Patience/tolerance and tact/diplomacy. </li><li>Strong written and oral communication skills. </li></ul> <p>MINUIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>2 years community based social services experience or other related experience with homeless adults, mentally ill or substance abusers. </li><li>Experience with ensuring the safety and security of program operations. </li><li>Access to reliable personal transportation required, including a DMV record that permits driver to be insured under SHELTER, Inc.'s automobile coverage. </li><li>Must successfully pass a criminal background check. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.</p> <p>Work is typically performed in a residential facility environment. Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
