You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Contact vhaedrpprogramsupport@va.gov for questions/assistance</p> <p>Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases</p> <p>Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)</p> <p>Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA</p> <p>Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)</p> <p>Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory</p> <p>CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)</p> <p>Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided</p> <p>Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting</p> <p>Physician (MD/DO) Anesthesiologist Duties:</p> <p>This Position is a blend of general anesthesia and pain anesthesia</p> <ul> <li>Administer anesthesia to patients rendering them insensitive to pain during surgery/procedures </li><li>Provide continuous and vigilant monitoring of the patient's physical response to the anesthetic, sedatives, analgesics, and related anesthetic agents </li><li>Maintain excellence in endotracheal intubation and extubation, airway management, and be skilled in the usage of all various airway adjuncts </li><li>Make a reasonable anesthetic plan for patients with severe comorbidities </li><li>Perform appropriately credentialed techniques of the anesthetic plan such as, but not limited to, insertion of intravenous lines, arterial lines, central lines, insertion of other invasive monitoring catheters, regional anesthesia, and TEE </li><li>Interpretation of arterial blood gases, EKG,s and all relevant pre, intra, and postoperative laboratory results </li><li>Perform pre-anesthetic evaluation of the patients </li><li>Develop and anesthetic plan and make the selection of anesthetic agents and techniques </li><li>Manage the anesthesia process to include induction, maintenance, and emergence from general, regional, monitored anesthesia cases, and satellite anesthesia care </li><li>Manage postoperative pain needs for any anesthetized patient </li><li>Recognize abnormal patient responses to and to initiate corrective measures </li><li>Determine the need for additional laboratory tests </li><li>Provide resuscitative care as necessary </li><li>Evaluate and manage the patient in the immediate post-operative period </li><li>Administer IV fluids relative to the patient's medical history and surgical procedure. </li><li>Administer blood products and monitor for adverse responses </li><li>Appropriately document the patient status in the anesthesia record </li><li>Teach and evaluate residents and students </li><li>Assume responsibility and be accountable for controlled substances according to department and hospital policy, as well as state and federal guidelines, etc. </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm with on call on some weekdays and weekends.</p>
