<p>This position typically performs basic administrative tasks; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees, citizens and Council members.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Assists in preparing and distributing documents as necessary for County Council. </li><li>Assists in transcribing the minutes of meetings from the recorded materials in proper format and correct grammatical form. </li><li>Makes copies of approved minutes, ordinances/resolutions available or other information to the public or media as allowed by practice or the S.C. Code. </li><li>Scans documents for retaining historical data. </li><li>Copies and mails agendas/attachments to Council Members, other departments/citizens and the media. </li><li>Assists in responding to public information requests, inquiries and complaints. </li><li>Performs diversified duties including answering office telephone calls; taking detailed messages and ensuring they are delivered to and handled by the appropriate personnel; enters information and data into the computer system and draft, edit and distribute correspondence. </li><li>Greeting citizens/visitors and handling citizen questions/complaints in a professional manner. </li><li>Assist in preparation of reports. </li><li>Assist in review of historical documents for proper archival procedures in accordance with State Law </li><li>Courier as needed to different offices or to pick up supplies </li><li>Other administrative duties may include but are not limited to, applying complex statutes and/or regulations, assist with ordering supplies, and records management. </li><li>Duties include assisting in permanently indexing all proceedings, ordinances and resolutions of Berkeley County Council. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li><li>High School diploma or equivalent; </li><li>Two (2) years of related administrative experience; </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Data Entry/Basic Skills score of 71 is required for this position; </li><li>Word score of 45 and Excel score of 40 required for this position; </li><li>Departmental testing may be administered during interview; </li><li>A criminal background check will be completed on selected applicant if a current one (less than 3 years old) is not on file. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of personal computers, including Word and Excel. </li><li>Skill in clerical tasks including filing, customer service, math, data entry and correct grammar usage. </li><li>Skill in the use of general office equipment. </li><li>Ability to accept payments. </li></ul> <p>This position requires the employee to sit and use hands to handle, feel, finger, grasp or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; use mental acuity and repetitive motion; and walk, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.The work is regularly performed in a relatively safe, secure and stable work environment. Thirty-seven and one half (37.5) hours per week. Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday 9:00am until 5:00pm with the ability to work flexible hours when necessary. Candidates must be able to work Monday evenings or any other evenings to attend meetings as needed. Scheduled hours/days, job location, duties and any other information contained herein is subject to change. May be required to work extra hours and to perform extra or different duties during emergency situations.</p>
