<p>General Definition of Work</p> <p>The benefits administrator, under moderate supervision, performs complex work with limited decision-making discretion coordinating employee benefits and benefit administration. Employee performs administrative/support work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures related to employee benefits under the direction of the Benefits Manager.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures </li><li>Administer and coordinate retirement, disability, and leave benefits for employees </li><li>Conduct new employee payroll/benefits orientations as often as needed to ensure employees are established in payroll and enrolled in insurance plans timely with accurate billing and proof of coverage </li><li>Facilitate the annual enrollment process for insurance and cafeteria plans </li><li>Maintain up to date benefits material in and on multiple platforms for employees </li><li>Maintain a variety of employee records for reference and audits </li><li>Assist employees with filing supplemental short-term disability claims completing necessary forms and monitoring status </li><li>Prepare/create various reports using carrier software, spreadsheets, as needed/required </li><li>Coordinate and process leave, disability, or retirement paperwork </li><li>Coordinate short-term and long-term disability leaves as well as workers' compensation leave in conjunction with FMLA and Workplace Accommodations </li><li>Collaborate and resolve insurance benefit concerns along with reporting and reconciliation problems </li><li>Assist beneficiaries with death claims; complete necessary forms and monitor status </li><li>Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly </li><li>Ensure that all Human Resources systems are fair, equitable, and adhere to state, federal, and local laws, and school board policies </li><li>Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training </li><li>Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations </li><li>Perform related work as assigned or required </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to school systems </li><li>Thorough knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards regarding school systems </li><li>Knowledge of required records preparation and maintenance </li><li>Knowledge of state statutes, federal laws/rules, policies, and regulations regarding employee benefits </li><li>Ability to use computer-based financial/human resource management software packages </li><li>Ability to use database search and retrieval both through query functions and typical web-based reporting in order to answer questions or to detect errors </li><li>Ability to read, revise, and propose board policies as needed </li><li>Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress </li><li>Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs </li><li>Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively </li><li>Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships </li><li>Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums </li><li>Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business </li><li>Ability to develop related charts, graphs, reports, and records pertaining to school planning and strategy </li><li>Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement </li><li>Ability to conceptualize, initiate, monitor, and evaluate new and/or current programs </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environment </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent required </li><li>Associate Degree or minimum of three (3) years' experience in related job preferred </li><li>Bachelor's Degree preferred </li><li>Equivalent combination of experience and education </li></ul>
