<p>Position Title:</p> <p>City Apprentice Hourly - Planning</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Salt Lake City is searching for driven, enthusiastic Apprentices to join our team. Apprentice responsibilities include learning and developing practical skills, participating in classes and workshops on and offsite, observing all health and safety codes, completing tests and work assignments. You should be well-organized, flexible, and willing to assist wherever possible.</p> <p>To be successful as an Apprentice, you must have great time management skills and be willing to fit into the existing staff structure. Outstanding Apprentices are those who are eager to learn, respond well to constructive feedback, build good relationships with colleagues, and, ultimately, advance public good.</p> <p>This is a part-time, non-benefited position. The selected candidate may work up to 20 hours per week.</p> <p>Upon successful performance, the mentor's recommendation, availability of funds, and the concurrence of the department and the Department of Human Resources this position is anticipated to last until August 1, 2025. Further extensions will be up to the Deputy Planning Director.</p> <p>IMPORTANT: Early application submittal is encouraged. This position will remain open until filled and may close at any time without notice.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Acquire specialized skills under the tutelage of experienced mentors.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend workshops and participation in as many learning opportunities as possible.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist within the relevant department while also learning about other aspects of the city.</p> </li><li> <p>Observe health and safety procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Complete all tests, presentations, and other required evaluations.</p> </li><li> <p>Positively receiving feedback.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend meetings and offering suggestions for improvement.</p> </li><li> <p>Keep a log of everything learned.</p> </li><li> <p>Build professional relationships with colleagues, leaders and general public.</p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Valid driver's license may be required.</p> </li><li> <p>Good physical strength and hand-eye coordination may be required.</p> </li><li> <p>Good time management, critical, and interpersonal skills may be required.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal skills, and troubleshooting abilities.</p> </li><li> <p>A growth mindset and passion for learning.</p> </li></ul> <p>The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by persons assigned to this job.
