<p>How You'll Contribute</p> <p>The Storytelling team works to expand the organization's impact through journalism, photography, film/video, web content, mapping, and data visualization. As one of the largest funders to individual storytellers in this work, it also identifies key grantmaking, and fellowship opportunities with creative talent. Much of the team's programmatic activity is focused on identifying and building capacity for the next generation of diverse storytellers.</p> <p>Reporting to the Sr. Director, Business Operations (Storytellers Collective), the Program Manager, Storytellers Collective is responsible for ensuring day-to-day execution of Storytellers Collective projects, which includes Storytelling engagements both in-house and in the field. The ability to travel on a frequent basis is required. The Program Manager supports the storytelling team, usually consisting of an Explorer and a guest Storyteller with a particular specialty in photojournalism, video, graphics, data visualization, archival assets, or cartography. The support given runs the gamut from logistical support to equipment assistance, coordination of venues, and ensuring that the event will be well-planned and executed. Post event reports are a necessary part of the role, as well as coordinating with host venues on event requirements.</p> <p>Your Impact</p> <p>Responsibilities Include</p> <ul> <li>Plan, execute, and communicate for Storytelling engagements. (40%) </li><li>Run operations for Storytelling programs including contracts, expense reports, vendor payments, visas, and travel assistance as needed for program staff and other contractors. (30%) </li><li>Research and Analysis: Work closely with other members of the storytelling team on regular research projects to inform strategy and decision-making. (10%) </li><li>Marketing and Communications Support: Provide support as needed to development of presentation materials on storytelling projects for both internal and external stakeholders. (10%) </li><li>Cross-Division Support: Assist in the coordination of cross-divisional projects as they relate to Storytelling, interfacing with relevant departments within the Society, NGP/Disney, regional offices as well as external partners. (10%) </li></ul> <p>Educational Background</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related field.</p> <p>Minimum Years and Type of Experience</p> <p>5+ years working in a storytelling, communications, or coordination environment. Must have a proven track record in coordinating multiple initiatives and strong writing and communication skills. Experience designing presentations, working with photographic and video assets, and coordinating multifaceted activities a plus.</p> <p>Necessary Knowledge and Skills</p> <ul> <li>Attention to detail, ability to understand and prioritize multiple requests from different team members. </li><li>Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; collaborative team member. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to track and report on high volume of projects. </li><li>Must be a self-guided, creative, highly organized, and motivated individual. </li><li>Must be capable of exercising flexibility, multitasking and working effectively with team members. </li><li>Proficiency with using Microsoft Office and Keynote and Adobe Creative Suite applications. </li></ul> <p>Supervision</p> <p>No direct reports.</p> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>The National Geographic Society offers a competitive and holistic total rewards package. Our compensation structure and transparent pay philosophy are based on industry-specific market data for similar-sized nonprofit organizations.</p> <p>The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. As a result, the majority of our staff are Hybrid. Our Hybrid category requires that staff work at Base Camp two days each week: every Tuesday and Wednesday. Hybrid staff are also always welcome to come in additional days each week if preferred.</p> <p>Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
