Accountants in the Finance Department provide accurate and timely financial services to Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee Counties, the State of Florida, the Judges within the circuit, and all other supporting departments. A successful Accountant will have a mix of organizational and analytical skills. They should be able to work out numbers, generate reports and find discrepancies as well as cost-saving opportunities.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.</p> <p>(1) Purchase Goods and Services</p> <p>Establish and maintain relationships with new and existing vendors ensuring cost-effectiveness</p> <p>Review purchasing requisitions from assigned departments</p> <p>Determine appropriate funding source, account numbers, and purchasing method for type of purchase requested</p> <p>Process requisitions according to guidelines set by funding source</p> <p>(2) Perform Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Duties</p> <p>Audit invoices for accuracy and completeness</p> <p>Prepare and process invoices for payment to vendors</p> <p>Ensure invoices are paid in a timely manner while adhering to departmental procedures</p> <p>Prepare money received for deposit</p> <p>Generate financial reports on a recurring basis</p> <p>(3) Maintain Records of Financial Transactions Including Fixed Asset Inventory</p> <p>File and/or scan purchasing documents</p> <p>Prepare fixed asset property control forms</p> <p>Perform periodic physical inventory count</p> <p>(4) Audit and Reconcile Financial Transactions</p> <p>Audit financial transactions for each funding source</p> <p>Reconcile central database to financial statements from each funding source</p> <p>Prepare journal entry requests as needed</p> <p>(5) Other Duties as Assigned</p> <p>Education and Training Guidelines</p> <p>Associate's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent from two-year College or technical school. (Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.)</p> <p>One-year related accounting experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis.)</p> <p>Advanced understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting functions</p> <ul> <li>Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook </li><li>Competency with JDEdwards financial software and Crystal Reports is desired </li><li>Superb time-management, organization, and attention to detail </li><li>Ability to multi-task </li><li>Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills </li><li>Comply with federal, state, and local financial requirements </li></ul> <p>Competencies</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
