This position will assist student clubs and organizations in creating new/enhanced student activities that promote pride and create new traditions. The Assistant Director works closely with the SELD team and student leader to initiate, plan, develop, and facilitate events and opportunities to enhance the quality of co-curricular student life and College experience for all students, with a focus leadership development and intentional programming</p> <p>Primary Purpose</p> <p>The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Leadership Development is responsible for providing support and guidance to student organizations on campus. This position will assist student clubs and organizations in creating new/enhanced student activities that promote pride and create new traditions. The Assistant Director works closely with the SELD team and student leader to initiate, plan, develop, and facilitate events and opportunities to enhance the quality of co-curricular student life and College experience for all students, with a focus leadership development and intentional programming</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <ul> <li>Develop and maintain systems, processes, infographics, and policies that aid in student organization development. </li><li>Maintain Student Organization Handbook, including shortcut infographics for student organizations that highlight headlines. Handbook should include policies, processes, and practices. </li><li>Guide and mentor student organizations regarding departmental, campus, and college regulations, policies, and procedures. </li><li>Advise student organizations in a manner which promotes advocacy for student issues and respond to support with services and programs, </li><li>Implement and co-manage the student engagement platform. </li><li>Create formal evaluation systems, conduct assessment, program evaluation and research in the area of leadership and involvement to measure learning outcomes, maintain relevant data, and use this data to improve programs and services. </li><li>Partner with Student Community Government in the recognition and funding process of student organizations and serve ex-officio on the Student Community Government Student Organization Committee. </li><li>Lead the student organization orientations in the fall and spring semesters for new and returning organizations. </li><li>Plan and facilitate a monthly leadership development series for student organizations on key topics such as public speaking, program planning, conflict resolution, DEI, budget management, recruitment, etc. </li><li>Work with student organization e-boards on recruitment efforts and engaging membership bases. </li><li>Manage student organization's access to RIC Rooms, emails, and webpages. </li><li>Responsible for regular communication with student organizations, including developing and disseminating biweekly student organization newsletters. </li><li>Co-manage student organization office space allocation process. Manage, recruit, train, and engage with student organization advisors while maintaining an advisor database that allows students to match with an appropriate advisor based on content, bandwidth, and quality of mentorship. </li><li>Facilitate the matching process for student organizations and advisors and host advisor learning circles each semester. </li><li>Coordinate the Student Involvement Fair at the beginning of each semester, and work with student organizations to be prepared for the events. </li><li>Coordinate student leader luncheons with RIC President in fall and spring. </li><li>Work with Senior Class to plan and implement Senior Week activities. </li><li>Plan, assist with, and implement signature and traditional campus events, and weekend programming as needed. </li><li>Manage logistics, budgets, communication, collaboration, and implementation of multi-club events throughout the year. </li><li>Assist in the development and implementation of the RIC Emerging Leaders program that encompasses mentorship opportunities and scaffolded leadership opportunities. </li><li>Assist students in connecting with local, regional, and national leadership development opportunities. </li><li>Showcase and recognize student leaders and leadership on campus through collaboration with other departments Supervise student workers and graduate students, and contribute to their training, learning, and growth. </li></ul> <p>Occasional Duties</p> <ul> <li>Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director. </li><li>Work evening and weekend hours as required. </li></ul> <p>Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge in issues relating to the Student Affairs, student development, and student involvement profession. </li><li>Demonstrated significant experience working with demographically diverse and traditionally underrepresented and oppressed groups (e.g. race, culture, gender, ability, sexual orientation). </li><li>Experience advising student organizations; </li><li>Excellent organization and long and short-term planning skills to implement multiple, concurrent projects with attention to detail </li><li>Must possess strong interpersonal skills, and excellent written and verbal skills. </li><li>Competence in utilizing various technology applications, electronic communication, word processing, and other related functions. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in student personnel/higher education administration, counseling, or a related field. </li><li>A minimum of four years of full-time professional experience in higher education/student affairs. </li><li>Significant experience working as an individual and on teams, in planning and implementing leadership workshops, events and programs. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Five years' successful professional experience at a supervisory level in a college or university setting in student activities or work involving administration, recreation, student and staff development or similar activities. </li><li>Experience in writing and assessing learning outcomes, as well as leadership research and program evaluation; </li><li>Involvement in professional organizations closely related to collegiate student leadership development; </li><li>Experience with computer graphics programs and production of visual communications, presentation design. </li><li>Bilingual </li></ul> <p>Environmental Conditions</p> <p>The employee is not exposed to known adverse environmental conditions.</p>
