<p>JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>POSITION TITLE</p> <p>Adjunct String or Woodwind Instrumental Instructors</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY</p> <p>Coker University in Hartsville, SC, seeks adjunct music instructors to teach applied lessons and instrumental techniques courses in string or woodwind instruments beginning August 2025 for the 25-26 academic year.</p> <p>Applied lessons are either 30 minutes per week (15 weeks) or 60 minutes per week (15 weeks). Students prepare for an end-of-semester jury or a recital during the semester. Instrumental techniques courses prepare Bachelor of Music Education students to work with beginning band or string students in a public school setting.</p> <p>Salary is competitive and based on candidate qualifications. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to teach applied lessons on string or woodwind instruments in the Coker Community Music Program for additional compensation.</p> <p>PRINCIPAL DUTIES</p> <ul> <li>Teach applied instrumental lessons in string or woodwind instruments </li><li>Select repertoire appropriate to the level of the student and the degree track within the music major </li><li>Prepare students for end-of-semester juries, recitals, and other solo performances </li><li>Teach an instrumental techniques course in strings or woodwinds </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's degree in Music (performance or music education) or Bachelor's degree in any area with relevant professional performance and teaching experience</p> </li><li> <p>Preferred: Master's degree in Music (performance)</p> </li><li> <p>At least 3 years of professional performing experience or applied instruction experience</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to select and teach repertoire appropriate for undergraduate music majors</p> </li><li> <p>Takes a learner-centered approach to applied instruction</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent organizational skills</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work collaboratively with visual and performing arts faculty</p> </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE</p> <ul> <li>Professional performing experience (solo or ensemble) </li><li>Teaching applied instrumental lessons </li><li>Teaching one-on-one applied lessons in any string or woodwind instrument </li><li>Preferred: Teaching instrumental techniques for Music Education students </li></ul> <p>TO APPLY</p> <p>Please submit a cover letter, resume/curriculum vitae, a brief teaching philosophy that includes how you have promoted student belonging and inclusion, copies of transcripts (official transcripts will be required of the successful candidate), and complete contact information for three professional references; and, if available, a digital portfolio highlighting creative work and performances.
