No VP Area Academic Affairs Department 00785 - First Generation Programs Location Campus City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range $15.00/hour Close Date 05/30/2025 Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary</p> <p>Upward Bound is a federally funded program to assist low-income youth to prepare for college. The program includes intensive academic enrichment for students in grades 9 through 12 and a college orientation (Bridge) program for recent high school graduates. Participants reside in the University residence halls and receive instruction in language arts, financial literacy, foreign language, mathematics, and science. Supervised recreation, guidance and counseling, career exploration, community service, and career exploration are also part of the summer experience.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Live in the University Residence Halls with high school students participating in the Upward Bound program and be on duty twenty-four hours per day. </li><li>Sunday evening through Friday evening, for duration of the six-week program. </li><li>Assist instructors with academic program. </li><li>Plan and supervise community service and social, cultural, and recreational activities. </li><li>Organize and run study halls and tutoring sessions. </li><li>Ensure students are actively attending and participating in classes Attend and supervise students on Wednesday activities. </li><li>Provide supervision, individual and online group tutoring, mentoring, and peer advising. </li><li>Must be a responsible individual with good interpersonal skills who enjoys working with adolescents from diverse economic, social, and cultural backgrounds. </li><li>Available for the duration of the program including the required training prior to the beginning of the program. </li><li>Driver's license and good driving record required. </li><li>Taking University coursework or having other employment during the summer program is not approved. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>This is a 3 month, temporary, non-benefited position.</p> <p>Preferences</p> <p>Persons who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target population are encouraged to apply.
