<p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>MUSC Health, a 750-bed academic medical center located in Charleston SC, is seeking a MOHS Histotechnologist for the MOHS surgery clinic for the support in assisting the physician to treat a large variety of skin cancers. A MOHS Histotechnologist I will be responsible for high quality histotechnological services under the direction of physician in a clinical practice. This position requires independent judgment in selection of methodologies utilized in processing tissue specimens and in solving routine problems. Histotechnologists contribute to the overall efficiency of the laboratory or pathology practice in a cost-effective manner by performing a variety of tasks, consisting primarily of preparing and Histological processing of all surgical pathology specimens in preparation for pathologist review and diagnosis.</p> <p>Laboratory technical personnel are responsible for specimen processing and test performance. This role requires the Mohs Histotechnologist to work directly in conjunction with surgeons and physicians in training to ensure testing accuracy. This role is also required to directly contribute to the academic processes carried out in this clinic. The following items represent their duties:</p> <ul> <li>Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, and report/maintain appropriate records. </li><li>Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies. </li><li>Demonstrate effective high complexity critical thinking and problem-solving skills in tandem with physicians. </li><li>Ensure adherence to CLIA/DHEC regulations, and actively communicate with CLIA/DHEC officials to ensure continued laboratory licensure. </li><li>Be present in surgical rooms an assist Mohs Surgeon in establishing specimen orientation, size, and mapping. </li></ul> <p>Additional Job Description</p> <p>Required Minimum Training and Education: Applicants must have one of the following education requirements:</p> <ul> <li>A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, other nature life, or health care science. </li><li>Associate's degree in histotechnology or health related science that includes courses in histology techniques. </li><li>High School diploma with the successful completion of a certificate program (ASCP - HT/HTL) in histologic techniques and two years on the job training in histologic technique. </li></ul> <p>Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: No professional experience required</p> <p>Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.
