<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>Are you passionate about making a real difference in people's lives? If you want to use your skills to build a healthier, more resilient community, we encourage you to apply.</p> <p>Under limited supervision, this position performs psychological evaluations for special populations (i.e. incarcerated adults, juveniles, seniors, and individuals with developmental disorders) or complex diagnostic cases and provides on-going consultation and oversight to psychology staff and contractors who serve as secondary examiners.</p> <ul> <li>Performs forensic evaluations state-wide for individuals referred by the State of South Carolina Judicial System to determine mental capacity to stand trial for defendants suspected of having intellectual disability and/or other developmental disabilities. </li><li>Provides written evaluations to the courts and expert testimony as required. Serves as an agency expert on forensic issues related to individuals with developmental disabilities. </li><li>Provides on-going consultation and assistance for psychology staff and contract examiners who serve as secondary examiners. Coordinates and plans the continuing education related to forensic psychology and developmental disorders for psychology staff and contract examiners. </li><li>Serves as agency expert for Atkins and Post Conviction Relief court cases. </li><li>Performs additional duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>BHDD-OIDD is a part of the state's behavioral health and developmental disabilities agency, providing services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health conditions and substance use disorders through a wholistic, streamlined and coordinated approach. OIDD assists in the planning, developing, coordinating, and funding services for South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of intellectual disability and related disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury and similar disability.</p> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>A doctorate in applied Psychology from an accredited college or university and experience in the practice of applied psychology.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Minimum of three (5) years of experience in the practice of applied psychology subsequent to the doctorate degree and experience in the area of forensic psychology, and possession of a current license to practice psychology or a license eligible candidate in the State of South Carolina.</p> <p>Extensive knowledge of forensic psychological assessment and practice standards and responsibilities; knowledge of psychological assessment techniques; experience and skills to select/administer/interpret psychological tests; knowledge and understanding of intellectual disabilities and other developmental disabilities as well as knowledge and understanding of mental health disorders and differential diagnosis, ability to communicate effectively with consumer's, staff, relevant agencies and judicial officials; ability to efficiently write reports of findings to the court as well as testify regarding clinical findings.</p> <p>Ability to identify and define Intellectual Disabilities; ability to evaluate Intellectual Functioning and identify issues in evaluating adaptive behaviors.</p> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>Employment Contingency: Employment is contingent upon our receipt of the following required pre-employment screenings: medical screening - to include a drug screening; background record checks (to include fingerprinting), South Carolina Department of Social Services' Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry screening, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General "List of Excluded Individuals/Entities" screening; South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles Driving Record check; and a review of transcripts verifying educational credentials. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.</p> <p>State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, employees of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.</p> <p>Employee Referral: The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities supports a Referral Incentive Reward and a Retention Bonus program.
