In fulfillment of its motto, Lux et Spes ("Light and Hope"), the College cultivates in its students the competence to think, act, and lead with courage towards creating a more just and compassionate world.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Residence Director is a live-in employee who promotes and enhances a supportive community environment in his/her residence area, which is conducive to academic achievement and personal growth.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for the oversight, management, and operation of a multi-class year (sophomore & junior) residential area of campus consisting of suite-style housing accommodations. </li><li>Supervises 8 paraprofessional staff members in the area and provides continuous direction, support, and feedback through regular one-on-one meetings. </li><li>Familiarizes oneself with the students in the area and shows concern for each resident's welfare. Counsels and refers students to appropriate campus services on behalf of the Needs Assessment Team. </li><li>Supervises the Residence Life Curriculum efforts of Resident Assistants in their residence area and personally supports these programs. </li><li>Advise the individual area Hall Council, support Residence Hall Association efforts and events. </li><li>Interprets and enforces college policies and participates in a formal professional staff on-call individual day and weekend rotation. </li><li>Facilitates conducting meetings under the direction of the Community Standards office. </li><li>Manages the common area alcohol use registration and monitoring process; partners with the wellness office on the development & implementation of educational programs surrounding drug and alcohol use for upper-class students. Provides leadership and guidance for this process to RDs in other areas. </li><li>Oversees the physical maintenance of the residence area and communicates maintenance needs to Facilities Management. Participates in bi-weekly area walkthroughs with Facilities Management staff. </li><li>Responsible for the opening and closing of the residence halls at the start and end of each break. </li><li>Assists with Head Resident Assistant and Resident Assistant recruitment, selection, and training. </li><li>Participates as a member of the College community in events and activities, including Skyhawk Welcome Days, Student Activities Programs, Convocation, Commencement Weekend, and Athletic games. </li><li>Enhances communication between the Residence Life department and other campus offices through regular interaction and formal interdepartmental meetings. </li><li>Participates in Residence Life weekly department meetings and individual supervisory meetings with the Assistant Director of Residence Life. </li><li>Attends and participates in professional staff training. Assists with the facilitation and implementation as requested. </li><li>Assists with the long-range planning of the Residence Life Office. </li><li>Perform a secondary assignment as determined by the central office staff. </li><li>Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life. </li></ul> <p>Education and/or Experience</p> <p>Preferred qualifications: Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field, and the ability to transfer theory into practice. Previous experience within a residence hall setting. Crisis management, supervisory, community development, and programming experience are also a preference.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Physical Demands</p> <p>While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.</p> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
