<p>Position Summary</p> <p>Under supervision of the Base Fire/Crash Rescue Supervisor and/or Base Fire Chief, the Fire Crash Rescue Specialist prevents, controls and extinguishes all types of fires on the ground and performs related rescue, first aid, and property preservation. This includes fires or potential of fires involving buildings, structures, operational processes, grounds, aircraft (including military aircraft), missiles and separate or component weapons or other materials. The Fire Crash Rescue Specialist performs operations and operator maintenance of all types of firefighting and related rescue vehicles, equipment systems and devices in support of overall base emergency contingency operations. The position is required to drive and operate various crash, rescue, structural pumper and water tender apparatus and all associated equipment and is required to wear personal protective equipment. Scheduled work week is shift type work and may include 8, 16 or 24 -hour coverage, depending on mission requirements.</p> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>Starting pay is $21.42/hr. ($62,375 annually)</p> <p>This position is in the 05-11 pay schedule/range. An 18-month probation will be required.</p> <p>The schedule for this position is 48/96 (Two consecutive 24-hours shifts, followed by 4 days/ 96 hours off.)</p> <p>These positions have Protective Occupation Status within the Wisconsin Retirement System, which is an accelerated retirement benefit.</p> <p>For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.</p> <p>The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.</p> <p>To learn more about the complete compensation package, please visit the Total Rewards Calculator.</p> <p>Job Details</p> <p>Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma, GED, or HSED.</p> <p>Required to possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and will obtain and maintain a military driver's license identifying assigned fire fighting vehicles. Must remain qualified for both licenses as a condition of employment.</p> <p>Required to possess State of Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license and remain licensed as a condition of employment.</p> <p>Must be physically qualified to carry heavy objects, personnel, and other items. Will be required to pass a pre-employment physical and physical agility test, at their own risk; in accordance with National Guard Regulation 5-1/ANGI 63-101 and other applicable regulations, pass periodic physicals.</p> <p>Must not be claustrophobic, acrophobic, pyrophoric or color blind.</p> <p>Must not have any felony convictions and must be able to qualify for and maintain the required Department of Defense (DOD) secret security clearance.</p> <p>Must not have physical limitations that would preclude the safe operation of vehicles, equipment or fire ground operations.</p> <p>Must possess or obtain required Fire Protection Program certifications in accordance with DODI 6055.6M, NGR 5-1 Appendix 24 and other applicable regulations, or as determined/required by the Fire Chief, and must maintain these certifications as a condition of employment</p> <p>All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will possess the following:</p> <ul> <li>Department of Defense Firefighter 1 certification. </li><li>Department of Defense HazMat Operations certification. </li><li>OR equivalent certifications from a program or organization that is accredited by IFSAC or ProBoard. </li></ul> <p>In addition to the minimum qualifications, well-qualified candidates will also possess the following preferred qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>IFSAC/ProBoard Firefighter II certification. </li><li>IFSAC/ProBoard Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) certification. </li><li>Possession of an earned associate's degree in Fire Protection, Emergency Management or a related program area/field. </li><li>EMT- Basic (or higher) certification. </li><li>Driver/Operator Pumper certification. </li><li>MWS (Mobile Water Supply) certification. </li><li>Public Telecommunicator I/II certification. </li></ul> <p>You will be required to attach a resume or complete a work experience submission, as well as answer several yes/no questions during the application process to determine your eligibility for the position.</p> <p>How To Apply</p> <p>Click "Apply for Job" to start the application process.
