<p>Job Title: Specimen Technician</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>The Specimen Technician accurately receives, registers, labels, and stores biological specimens while performing data entry and other accession-related tasks in a fast-paced laboratory environment. This role works frequently in cold environments, including freezers, and requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. It offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the scientific field and build a long-term career within a growing laboratory organization.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Sort, rack, and organize incoming specimens according to established laboratory procedures. </li><li>Register and accurately label specimens to ensure proper identification and traceability. </li><li>Perform precise data entry of specimen information into laboratory information systems. </li><li>Store specimens appropriately, including placing and retrieving samples from cold environments and freezers. </li><li>Handle and process frozen samples as part of the specimen accessioning workflow. </li><li>Follow all standard operating procedures related to specimen accession, handling, and storage. </li><li>Complete miscellaneous tasks delegated by leadership that support specimen accession and laboratory operations. </li><li>Maintain strong attention to detail to prevent specimen mix-ups, labeling errors, or data entry inaccuracies. </li><li>Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while meeting daily productivity and quality expectations. </li><li>Adhere to all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment when working in the lab and freezer areas. </li><li>Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to ensure smooth specimen flow through the laboratory. </li><li>Support specimen registration and collection workflows as needed. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent. </li><li>Experience working in a fast-paced environment. </li><li>Strong attention to detail in handling, labeling, and registering specimens. </li><li>Accurate and efficient data entry skills. </li><li>Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. </li><li>Comfort working in cold environments, including freezers. </li><li>Ability to follow detailed procedures and instructions. </li><li>Reliable typing skills to support timely and precise data entry. </li><li>Ability to work assigned shift schedule, including 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift as needed. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Interest in building a career in the scientific or pharmaceutical laboratory field. </li><li>Experience with specimen processing, collection, or registration is beneficial. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to maintain focus and accuracy over repetitive tasks. </li><li>Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-volume setting. </li><li>Willingness to learn new laboratory systems, processes, and technologies. </li><li>Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This role is based in a laboratory setting with frequent work in cold environments, including refrigerated areas and freezers, where handling frozen samples is routine. The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds and standing or moving for portions of the shift. Multiple shifts are available: 1st shift runs Tuesday-Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; 2nd shift runs Tuesday-Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and 3rd shift runs Monday-Friday from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. The facility offers on-site amenities such as a gym, cafeteria, and regular team-building activities, including events with food trucks and special treats. The organization emphasizes internal promotion and provides opportunities to explore different departments over time. The dress code requires that nails do not protrude through latex gloves to maintain PPE effectiveness. Team members may wear T-shirts with non-offensive, non-controversial writing, and their upper body will be covered by a lab coat while in the lab. Long pants without tears are required, and ankles must not be exposed; sweatpants are not permitted, and yoga pants or leggings are under review and may be restricted. Shoes must fully cover the feet with no exposed skin, so open-toed shoes and flip-flops are not allowed.
