<p>Position Information</p> <p>Position Number S00541 Position Title Lead Electrician Division/Portfolio Facilities Management Department/Program Operations Location Kelowna Other Flexible Work Options Your Opportunity</p> <p>Under the direction of the Manager, Operations and Energy Systems, supervises and assigns work orders, performs electrical installations, maintenance and repairs on related building systems, and equipment in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, BC Safety Authority Regulations, Worksafe BC, BC Fire Code and BC Building Code. Maintains electrical inventory, recommends system and equipment upgrades/replacements, ensures compliance with electrical and safety codes; maintains permits, reports and log books, and performs other related duties as required.</p> <p>Functions and Duties</p> <ol> <li> <p>Prioritizes, assigns and supervises work orders to be performed by staff electricians and monitors completions of tasks. Ensures electrical repair and work is completed in a safe and efficient manner. Follows guidelines from WSBC regulations, BC Electrical Code and Okanagan College Health and Safety policies. Recommends additional personnel training where required.</p> </li><li> <p>Designated as the Field Safety Representative under the BC Safety Authority on the College's new and existing electrical operating permits, complies with all duties outlined in the BC Safety Authority Electrical regulations, including consulting with BC Safety Authority on code compliance and project design, where necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Recommends to the Manager of Operations any projects or systems which require repair or upgrading, and assists the Manager of Operations in the preparation of projects requiring replacement or upgrading. Provides dedicated technical electrical knowledge, advice and oversight of electrcial work performed. Identifies unsafe electrical work practices and recommends and carries out corrective solutions.</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly reviews with the Operations Manager, the progress of all activities underway and any deficiencies related to electrical equipment, materials, procedures, and makes recommendations related to priorities and any necessary corrective action.</p> </li><li> <p>Installs, repairs, troubleshoots and maintains electrical distribution systems, motor control centres, switch gear, fire systems, lighting systems, appliances, electric motors and related control systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains system records, such as log books, fire system verification records, generator tests records, and other necessary records as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Implements, coordinates, schedules and maintains a computerized work order system and preventitive maintenance program related to electrcial work.</p> </li><li> <p>Repairs and maintains Building Management control systems and computerized lighting systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains fire protection systems, and conducts annual inspection and testing according to the requirements specified in the BC Fire Code.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists in maintaining electrical inventory.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs emergency and standby duties as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other related duties as required.</p> </li></ol> <p>Education and Experience</p> <p>Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent plus trades training to Electrical Journeyman status.</p> <p>Field Safety Representative - FSR Class B certificate of qualification as a minimum.</p> <p>Valid Class 5 drivers license required.</p> <p>Over 8 years of progressive experience, including 2 years of supervisory experience.</p> <p>Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>The ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships and exercise courtesy, tact and discretion. </li><li>Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills and work well in a team environment. </li><li>Commitment to customer service and operating styles that build on teamwork and cooperation. </li><li>Flexible and comfortable with change. </li><li>In-depth working knowledge of electrical and safety including regulations, standards, methods and practices. </li><li>Considerable knowledge and experience with institutional building electrical system environments. </li><li>A strong ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical equipment. </li><li>Exceptional diagnostic skills. </li><li>Experience with electronics such as BMS, fire alarm, security systems, emergency lighting. </li><li>Ability to set up electrical maintenance programs. </li><li>Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications. </li><li>Must be able to prioritize workload and urgency of request. </li><li>Ability to plan, schedule and coordinate work with maintenance resources available. </li></ul> <p>Basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel and Outlook are required.</p> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work both indoors and outdoors throughout the campus (multiple campus locations). </li><li>This position will require occasional heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. </li><li>Ability to work in confined spaces, withstand heights, periods of bending and/or assume uncomfortable, awkward positions. </li><li>Working on ladders and mobile lifting devices will be required. </li><li>Wearing personal protective equipment will be required. </li><li>Overtime hours may be required. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications Desired Start Date 01/26/2026 Position End Date (if temporary) Schedule</p> <p>Monday to Friday; 8:00AM - 4:00PM</p> <ul> <li>Shifts may vary based on operational need. </li></ul> <p>Annual Salary/Hourly Rate $75,403 Appointment Type Support - Regular Full-time Special Instructions to Applicants</p> <p>Shortlisted internal candidates must notify the current Support Staff Bargaining Chairperson and People Services if they want a Union Observer during interviews and final selection of candidates.</p> <p>Employee Group Support</p>
