<p>Position Title: Carpenter</p> <p>Salary Range: Regionally Competitive</p> <p>FLSA Status: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director of Facilities/Director of Service Building</p> <p>Job Summary: The Carpenter is responsible for repairing, constructing, troubleshooting, purchasing, and installing carpentry needs to ensure the school facilities and equipment are functioning at optimal levels. This role plays a key part in maintaining and improving the school's infrastructure, addressing any carpentry-related issues promptly to support the smooth operation of daily activities.</p> <p>Principal Characteristics of Work</p> <p>Types of Activities Performed Frequently: The Carpenter is responsible for the construction of various structures in accordance with all applicable building codes and school planning guidelines. In addition to building new structures, this role involves the repair and maintenance of educational facilities and the equipment within them. The Carpenter is also tasked with managing and maintaining the Corporation's tools and vehicles assigned to their duties.</p> <p>Types of Activities Performed Occasionally: The Carpenter is responsible for planning, developing, and estimating carpentry projects, working closely with school supervisors and administrators to ensure that all projects align with the needs of the school. This role also includes recommending carpentry supplies and tools, ensuring that the necessary materials are available for efficient operations. Additionally, the Carpenter is expected to attend professional meetings to stay updated on industry best practices and trends, contributing to the overall improvement of the school's facilities.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Required Experience or Training: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with at least two years of experience in building maintenance. The candidate should possess basic computer skills, be able to lift up to 60 pounds, and hold a valid operator's license. </li><li>Desired Experience or Training: Completion of four (4) years of apprenticeship schooling or equivalent is preferred. Additionally, two (2) years of practical experience in the carpentry trade is desired. Post-secondary training related to carpentry or the trade is also beneficial. </li><li>Special Requirements: A practical knowledge of all aspects of the carpentry trade, methods, and practices as they apply to school facilities is required. The candidate should also possess the ability to estimate and control maintenance costs and foster cooperation among fellow employees. Strong communication skills and a commitment to teamwork are essential for success in this position. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Mental Demands: Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and work orders to complete carpentry projects accurately and efficiently. Requires problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to measure and calculate dimensions with precision. Must be capable of planning and executing tasks independently or as part of a team, while adhering to safety standards and project timelines. </li><li>Physical Demands: Must be able to work in confined spaces, on ladders, rooftops, and in various indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to lift 60 pounds without assistance and safely handle tools and equipment for extended periods. </li><li>Environmental Conditions: Work is primarily performed indoors, but may also include outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions. The position involves exposure to dust, wood particles, chemicals such as adhesives and sealants, and occasional fumes from paints or finishes. Tasks may require working in confined spaces, at heights, or using ladders and scaffolding. Frequent lifting, bending, and the use of hand and power tools are required. The carpenter must be available for scheduled work hours and emergency repairs, including evenings or weekends when necessary. Proper safety equipment and adherence to safety protocols are essential to ensure personal and workplace safety. Must be able to handle stress. </li></ul>
