<p>VetweRx Equine North (VEN) is an equine veterinary practice offering its patients comprehensive equine veterinary care. We are seeking a candidate to join our team as a veterinary assistant and equine rehabilitation support specialist.</p> <p>Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. - May vary depending on workload</p> <p>Reports to: Practice Manager and Medical Director</p> <p>Department: Hospital</p> <p>Location: Hospital and Ambulatory</p> <p>Compensation: Hourly</p> <p>The VEN Veterinary Assistant and Rehab Specialist will offer exposure to various experiences in all areas of equine medicine. Candidates will assist the doctors with in-clinic and field appointments and rotate through the rehabilitation center. When working as veterinary assistants, they will help veterinarians diagnose and treat patients. When assigned to rehab, they will help manage and carry out horse rehabilitation therapies as directed by the managing doctor. The position may also require other duties around the hospital as assigned by the practice manager, medical director, and staff veterinarians.</p> <p>DUTIES</p> <p>General:</p> <ul> <li>Maintain a clean workplace, including the hospital and ambulatory vehicles </li><li>Model professionalism and ethical practices </li><li>Service and maintain Rehabilitation and diagnostic equipment </li></ul> <p>Medical:</p> <ul> <li>Handle and jog horses during the veterinarian's exams </li><li>Monitor patients and alert the doctor to any potentially dangerous behavior </li><li>Set up and break down equipment as needed </li><li>Scrub joints or wounds as required for treatment </li><li>Collect billing and patient information from the clients </li><li>Clean up after the appointment </li><li>Assist with the stocking of ambulatory vehicles and clinic supplies </li><li>Administer medications to inpatients as directed by doctors </li><li>Help with daily cleaning and maintenance of the clinic workspaces </li></ul> <p>Rehabilitation:</p> <ul> <li>Perform rehab therapies such as dry treadmill, water treadmill, vibration therapy, and Game Ready therapy. </li><li>Restrain patients as needed. </li><li>Collaborate weekly to monitor horses' progress and adjust treatment plans. </li><li>Maintain accurate patient records. </li><li>Pay attention to your surroundings and keep horses safe at all times </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Promote a cooperative working environment among staff members </li><li>Work independently and as part of a team to help the practice function as a unit </li><li>Be self-motivated and dependable </li><li>Understand and carry out oral and written instructions </li><li>Ask questions when needed </li><li>Focus on patient care and customer satisfaction </li><li>Foster continuous quality improvement </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE</p> <ul> <li>Minimum 5 years of horse handling experience. </li><li>Ability to read horse body language and perform advanced handling of horses. </li><li>Experience in an equine veterinary practice or rehabilitation facility preferred. </li><li>Recognize when horses are in distress or acting abnormally </li></ul> <p>PERSONAL</p> <ul> <li>Feel and express a genuine liking for animals and working in animal care. </li><li>Work under the administrative supervision of the managers and doctors, and use sound personal judgment in selecting methods, establishing priorities, and arriving at conclusions. </li><li>Be flexible in attitude and work habits </li><li>Be able and willing to stand for long periods and lift at least 50 pounds Have reliable transportation to and from work. </li></ul> <p>At VEN we pride ourselves on providing the highest quality of care to our patients, service to our clients, and growth to our employees.
