Job Description:

Roger Williams University is seeking Adjunct Professors to teach in its Music Program. Teaching assignments may include one-on-one studio lessons and/or courses in music history, theory, world culture through music, or specific styles depending on applicant expertise and curricular need.

The Music Program is part of RWU's Performing Arts Department, and is part of the University's School of Humanities, Arts, and Education. Professors who teach within the Music Program most often teach a mixture of Music Majors and Minors who range from low intermediate to advanced levels. Professors who enjoy engaging with liberal arts students of varying backgrounds, levels, and reasons for studying music are highly sought. Our majors, double majors, and minors all seek a life-long relationship with music whether planning to pursue a music profession or otherwise. Because of this, our faculty's ability make connections to other disciplines and employ contextual lenses is highly valued, whether they be other art forms, the sciences, technology, and/or cultural studies.

RWU's Music Program values diversity and freedom of expression in all forms. Majors have a choice of a Global Music Studies track that examines music within its specific cultural and historic context as well as interculturally, or an Electronic Music, Composition, and Technology track that offers a focus on hands-on creative and expressive activity. The applied music program is open to students of all levels, but does offer a path to a capstone senior recital for more advanced students. The range of courses available is unusual for a small program, and the range of programs that can be paired with the Music Major and Minor is extensive for a small university. We seek faculty who can work collaboratively, think laterally, and have diverse interests.

Requirements:

Master's Degree required; doctorate preferred.

Professional experience including significant undergraduate-level teaching experience and (for applied music positions) demonstrated excellence as a performer and studio teacher.

Demonstrated commitment to student success at all levels and collegial collaboration.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Additional Information:

Roger Williams University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and com-mitted to a diverse workforce. All applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or any other basis protected by applicable state and federal law.
