<p>Iowa Western Community College's Continuing Education division seeks a highly experienced and safety-focused professional to deliver non-credit training in General Industrial Safety with emphasis on Lineman Safety Awareness. The ideal candidate will have extensive real-world utility experience and a strong background in safety leadership and instruction. This role is perfect for a seasoned utility professional who is passionate about workforce development, safety culture, and hands-on learning.</p> <ul> <li>Deliver engaging, real-world instruction on general industrial safety topics, including fall protection, excavation safety, electrical hazard awareness, enclosed space entry, job site hazard identification, and OSHA safety protocols. </li><li>Provide instruction in lineman safety awareness, including rubber goods use, equal potential grounding, and line worker-specific safety practices. </li><li>Instruct classes focused on practical utility safety training for apprentices and upskilling adult learners. </li><li>Develop and maintain course outlines, descriptions, agendas, and instructional materials (e.g., PowerPoints). </li><li>Support continuing education initiatives by ensuring alignment with OSHA, NESC, and industry best practices. </li><li>Assist in safety program evaluation, learner assessments, and hands-on demonstrations. </li><li>Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and mentor in industrial and utility safety best practices. </li><li>Evaluate student progress through assignments, assessments, and projects, offering constructive feedback. Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment to encourage student engagement and collaboration. </li><li>Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and grades per institutional policies. </li><li>Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum and instructional improvements. </li><li>Ensure instructional equipment and materials are well-maintained and ready for use. </li><li>Travel to IWCC centers and other training sites as needed. </li><li>Demonstrate IWCC's core mission, vision, and values. </li><li>Maintain prompt and reliable attendance. </li><li>Uphold strict confidentiality at all times. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Required: </p> <ul> <li> <p>Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the utility industry, with 5 years of significant safety training leadership responsibilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Associate of Science (AS) degree in Utility Line Technology, or a degree in a related field, or a professional license in a utility-related discipline.</p> </li><li> <p>Proven experience with line technician safety protocols, including both overhead and underground systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to analyze safety data and implement improvement strategies.</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with relevant safety regulations and standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated knowledge of occupational safety principles and practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong leadership and communication skills are required to effectively promote a culture of safety.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficiency in conducting safety training and compliance audits.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong working knowledge of OSHA, NESC, and safety regulatory standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Exceptional communication skills with the ability to instruct and engage adult learners from a variety of backgrounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to pass a background check</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Certified Competent Person in Fall Protection and Excavation Safety.</p> </li><li> <p>Instructional or facilitation experience in utility or technical training environments.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience leading incident investigations, apprenticeship oversight, and course development.</p> </li><li> <p>Prior experience working in or with a public utility or cooperative.</p> </li><li> <p>Standing for extended periods (while instructing or demonstrating)</p> </li><li> <p>Walking around training areas, including outdoor or utility yard environments</p> </li><li> <p>Lifting and moving equipment or training props (e.g., harnesses, line tools, manikins, ropes, rescue gear)</p> </li><li> <p>Hands-on Demonstrations (when applicable):</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrating PPE usage (donning fall protection harnesses, rubber gloves, etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Setting up safety and training equipment (cones, barriers, grounding tools)</p> </li><li> <p>Climbing simulations (if part of the training program-light pole climbing or ladder work may be expected)</p> </li><li> <p>Using hand tools relevant to lineman tasks (showing safe handling)</p> </li><li> <p>Indoor and outdoor work settings, possibly in non-climate-controlled shops or training yard.</p> </li></ul> <p>Cognitive Requirements (as presently performed to accomplish essential functions):</p> <ul> <li>Reading, Writing, Calculating </li><li>Social Interaction Skills </li><li>Reasoning/Analysis </li><li>Works with Minimal Supervision </li></ul>
