<p>Career Opportunity: </p> <p>The city of Las Vegas Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs department invites applications for Instructor (MSU) Municipal Sports Unit. This is an hourly, entry-level, part-time position. Scheduled hours are limited to an average of 19 hours or fewer per week (shifts will vary based on the needs of sports leagues and events). Hourly employees are limited to 1,560 hours of work in any 18-month period.</p> <p>Supervision Received:</p> <p>Receives general supervision from full-time sports staff, site supervisors, or other designated supervisory personnel.</p> <p>The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/or future openings which may include part-time positions. </p> <p>Selection Process: </p> <p>The selection process will include a review of applications, with only the most qualified candidates invited to participate in an interview. Final selection may include a second interview, reference checks, and successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and background check.</p> <p>NOTE: Eligible applicants will be contacted by phone or email only if moving forward in the selection process. Applications remain active for four (4) months.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <p>Youth Sports Operations:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assist with the setup, breakdown, and supervision of youth sports leagues and recreational events, including basketball, flag football, soccer, T-ball, and more.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as a sports official, coach, scorekeeper, timekeeper, or field/court monitor - depending on assignment.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate basic sport-specific skills, help facilitate drills, and organize games during leagues, practices, clinics, and special events.</p> </li><li> <p>Support staffing needs for one-day or seasonal events, such as tournaments, skills camps, combines, or jamborees.</p> </li><li> <p>Enforce safety protocols, monitor equipment usage, and promote sportsmanship.</p> </li></ul> <p>Customer Service & Program Support:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Greet parents, coaches, and participants while providing excellent customer service.</p> </li><li> <p>Respond to inquiries about sports programs, schedules, and league rules.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with participant check-in, attendance, and general on-site communication.</p> </li><li> <p>Distribute program information and promotional materials as needed.</p> </li></ul> <p>Monitoring & Safety Duties:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ensure a safe environment by observing, documenting and reporting incidents, injuries, or inappropriate behavior to supervisory staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly inspect fields, courts, and equipment for safety issues and report concerns.</p> </li><li> <p>Support youth and parent engagement by promoting positive conduct during all sports activities.</p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Must be at least 16 years of age</p> </li><li> <p>Interest and experience in sports through playing, coaching, instructing, or officiating</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to demonstrate and lead sports drills or games and assist with equipment setup</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work independently and as part of a team</p> </li><li> <p>Must be physically able to actively participate in recreation activities and work outdoors as needed</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to communicate clearly and follow safety protocols</p> </li><li> <p>Basic computer skills preferred</p> </li><li> <p>First Aid/CPR/AED certifications are preferred, but not required</p> </li><li> <p>Cash handling skills and Spanish/English bilingual skills are desirable, but not required</p> </li></ul> <p>Core Workforce Competencies:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Professionalism - Demonstrates core values by being honest, respectful and positive.</p> </li><li> <p>Effective Communication - Expresses verbal and written thought in a clear and understandable manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Customer Focus - Demonstrates genuine concern and satisfies external and/or internal customers based on the CLV core purpose and values.</p> </li><li> <p>Adaptability - Able to effectively modify behavior to suit changing workforce demands.</p> </li><li> <p>Problem Solving - Solves problems by considering all causes, solutions and outcomes.</p> </li><li> <p>Productive Partnerships - Develops, maintains and strengthens partnerships with others.</p> </li><li> <p>Technical and Safety Expertise - Possesses a depth of knowledge, skill and ability in a technical (job) area.</p> </li></ul>
