<p>Description</p> <p>Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking to hire anAutomotive & Heavy Equipment Technician III. The Automotive & Heavy Equipment Technician III is the lead/ specialist level classification in the equipment technician series. The Automotive & Heavy Equipment Technician III performs a variety of highly skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of light duty, medium duty, heavy trailer, truck and road maintenance equipment.</p> <p>This is afull-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Thursday from 6am - 4:30pm during April- October and Monday - Friday from 7am - 3:30pm during October - April. This position will work out of 5201 St Vrain Road, LongmontCO, 80503.Under FLSA guidelines, this position isnon-exempt (eligible for overtime).</p> <p>Hiring Salary Range: $70,428.00 to $85,908.00 Annually</p> <p>Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.</p> <p>Tentative Hiring Timeline:</p> <ul> <li>Phone Screening: Week of March 16th </li><li>First Round Interviews: Week of March 16th </li><li>Second Round Interviews: Week of March 23rd </li><li>Reference Check: Week of March 23rd </li></ul> <p>New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Visit studentaid.gov for more information</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <ul> <li>Performs and directs diagnostics, major and minor repairs and general maintenance on gas hybrid, gasoline and diesel engines and major drive train components transmissions, differentials and drive units </li><li>Performs and directs diagnostics, major and minor repairs on emissions system, cooling systems, fuel systems, electrical systems, CAN data bus systems, heating and air conditioning systems, air systems and hydraulic systems </li><li>Performs major and minor tune-ups using appropriate technical information outlined by manufacturer </li><li>Performs annual heavy diesel emissions test and D.O.T. inspections in compliance with state and federal regulations </li><li>Performs general and specialized metal fabrication and welding on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum using gas torch, ARC, MIG, and TIG welders </li><li>Diagnoses and solves complex, non-routine, and remote maintenance and repair problems </li><li>Maintains necessary records of all work performed using computerized fleet management system </li><li>Assists with training of less experienced employees and directs work of others, as required </li><li>Operates equipment such as; cars, trucks, snow plows, graders, dozers, loaders, and semi-trucks for testing, repair and delivery purposes in compliance with D.O.T regulations </li><li>Performs related work, as required </li><li>May be reassigned during emergency situations </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>PLEASE NOTE: When completing your application describe all relevant education and experience, as applications are assessed based on the required qualifications listed. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of</p> <ul> <li>A high school diploma or equivalent </li></ul> <p>AND</p> <ul> <li>At least four years of experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy trucks, heavy equipment, and mechanized automotive equipment </li></ul> <p>Additional related education may count towards required experience.</p> <p>TOOLS:</p> <ul> <li>Applicants mustpossess hand tools necessary to perform Mechanic III duties </li></ul> <p>DRIVER'S LICENSE:</p> <ul> <li>Applicants must possess a Class A or Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with manual transmission endorsement or be able to obtain within 12 months of hire </li><li>Applicants must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record </li><li>For more information regarding a clean driving record, please click here. </li></ul> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Applicants must pass a pre-employment physical and drug test </li><li>Applicants must possess hand tools necessary to perform Mechanic III duties </li><li>Must have a state of Colorado Diesel opacity inspector certification or be able to obtain within 12 months of hire </li><li>Mobile Air Climate Systems EPA 609 Certification to handle, recover, recycle, and dispose of refrigerants or be able to obtain within 12 months of hire </li><li>D.O.T inspector certification or be able to obtain within 12 months of hire </li></ul> <p>BACKGROUND CHECK:</p> <ul> <li>A job offer is contingent on passing a background investigation with fingerprinting </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Class A or Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with manual transmission endorsement</p> </li><li> <p>Colorado Diesel opacity inspector certification</p> </li><li> <p>Mobile Air Climate Systems EPA 609 Certification</p> </li><li> <p>D.O.T inspector certification</p> </li><li> <p>ASE Certifications</p> </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Thorough knowledge of design, adjustment, operation, maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Thorough knowledge of standard practices and procedures, and hazards and safety precautions of the mechanical trade</p> </li><li> <p>Skill in the use of mechanical tools, materials and testing equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical defects</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work effectively with other employees</p> </li><li> <p>Must work in compliance with OSHA regulations and follow safety policies and procedures</p> </li></ul> <p>Back and Upper Body (lifting)</p> <p>Constantly lift with one or two hands tools and parts weighing 1-30 lbs. from floor to waist. This lift and those below are done with one or two hands. Frequently lift tools and parts weighing 30-80 lbs. from floor to shoulder. Occasionally lift parts weighing 50-70 lbs., and over from floor to shoulder, with co-workers. Occasional push and pull average 100 lb. force using various jacks and supporting devices.</p> <p>Hands and Arms</p> <p>Must have strength and dexterity in both arms and both hands for constant use of all tools, including hammers, wrenches, and power tools of all sizes for long periods of time each day. Frequently spend time with arms overhead while lying under equipment, or arms extended with body leaning on equipment, or kneeling to the area being repaired (example of this would be taking brake shoes off using a 12 lb. impact or socket wrench). Occasionally disassemble and assemble various auto parts on work surfaces 35 inches high or at ground level.</p> <p>Body Movement</p> <p>Constantly stand, kneel, or lie on concrete floor. Must work in unusual positions, depending on the job being done. Frequently climb on and under equipment while carrying tools and parts weighing 1-30 lbs.
