The group will support a variety of programs by developing analytical capabilities and performing internal two-phase fluid dynamics and heat transfer analyses.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>As the supervisor of this group, you will be responsible for leading a group of approximately 8-15 engineers, reporting to the Department 464 Engineering Manager. The primary area of technical responsibility is in supervising one of the Fluid Dynamics groups. The group performs analysis of fluid flow and thermal problems using custom and commercially available computational tools, and supports multiple classes and programs.</p> <p>Responsibilities include leading a team to support new design work though calculations, pursuing Independent Research and Development (IRAD) projects, and supporting construction or fleet issues as they arise. The supervisor must be able to balance schedule and budget constraints while maintaining high quality standards in the group. The role will require working in a highly collaborative environment, interfacing with other engineering departments, design groups, program office, subcontractors, NAVSEA, the Office of Naval Research, and the Navy Labs. The role also requires facilitating the exchange of design information within the department and across all technical interfaces.</p> <p>Specific areas of responsibility include:</p> <p>Developing a culture of high performance and quality through effective performance management and employee developmentDirectly coordinate and collaborate with the other Fluid Dynamics supervisor to ensure production efforts meet specified timelinesSupporting fluid system products and executing to program schedulesPersonnel training, mentoring, and succession planningPreservation of critical technical skills and knowledgeLeading, motivating, training and mentoring employees to drive accountability and career developmentUnderstanding and managing hiring and staffing needs, including fishnets and manpower planningIndividual must be able to operate in a collaborative teaming environment, interfacing with various design and engineering departments, operations, subcontractors, and the NAVY customerAnalyzing the groups needs and identifying specific training requirements (on-the-job training, mentoring, developmental assignments, formal training, external training resources, etc.)Develop, implement, and maintain department processesSupport ongoing organizational improvement effortsBuild credibility, establish rapport, and maintain communication and relationships with various stakeholders, both internal and external</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated leadership skills </li><li>Strong work ethic and demonstrated dedication to success </li><li>Strong organization skills </li><li>Project Management skills the ability to manage several projects at the same time across multiple programs </li><li>Ability to function independently as well as work in a multidiscipline team environment </li><li>Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills </li><li>Demonstrated understanding of SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC, and SSDR requirements and application </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required:</p> <p>Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Marine EngineeringMinimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a professional settingAbility to obtain and hold a DOD Secret security clearanceExperience in submarine fluid system design philosophy and technical requirements</p> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Masters of Science in Mechanical or Marine Engineering Experience with pipe stress theory and its implementation into submarine designExperience with manpower planning, performance management, commitment, and quality reporting systems </li></ul>
