We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Mass Eye and Ear (MEE) Ambulatory Infection Control & High-Level Disinfection/Sterilization (HLDS) Manager is a key leader within these academic medical centers, advancing a culture of safety through evidence-based infection prevention practices, high-reliability process oversight, and expert-level management of HLDS standards. This individual serves as a strategic partner across clinical and operational teams-bridging performance improvement with regulatory excellence, surveillance science, and frontline education. In addition to primary and specialty outpatient clinics, the ambulatory areas of these facilities include large community health centers, ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs), and multiple Mass General Brigham (MGB) Cancer Institute locations, with the clinical profile of these areas including an ever-growing array of numerous, complex procedures.</p> <p>Reporting to the MGH-MEE Senior Manager of Infection Control , the manager oversees site-specific infection prevention programs, ensures rigorous compliance with HLDS requirements, and helps shape institutional policy, training, and safety initiatives to safeguard patients, staff, and the academic mission.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>Infection Prevention & Program Leadership</p> <ul> <li>Leads and coordinates the MGH and MEE Ambulatory Infection Control program, ensuring alignment with academic medical center standards, research demands, and teaching priorities. </li><li>Develops, implements, and evaluates the program, with special emphasis on HLDS and device reprocessing. </li><li>Conducts needs and risk assessments and to support infection control at MGH and MEE ambulatory sites, including ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs). </li><li>Implements systemwide infection prevention and HLDS goals at the site level, ensuring adherence to clinical, administrative, and regulatory requirements. </li></ul> <p>HLDS Oversight</p> <ul> <li>Oversees and evaluates compliance with HLDS policies, procedures, competencies, and quality monitoring across departments. </li><li>Partners with the Central Sterile Processing and Supply (CSPS) department, procedural areas, and clinical leadership to ensure safe, consistent device reprocessing practices. </li><li>Supports readiness for inspections, accreditation surveys, and regulatory reviews related to infection prevention and HLDS. </li><li>Leads performance improvement initiatives aimed at reducing reprocessing failures and improving workflow, traceability, and safety culture. </li></ul> <p>Surveillance, Reporting & Outbreak Response</p> <ul> <li>Ensures comprehensive surveillance, remediation, and reporting of healthcare-associated infections, including outbreak detection and response. </li><li>Supports reporting of communicable disease cases to appropriate public health authorities. </li><li>Serves as liaison between the site and regulatory/public health agencies, representing the organization on external committees when needed. </li></ul> <p>Education, Training & Stakeholder Collaboration</p> <ul> <li>Plans and delivers site-specific education on infection prevention, HLD standards, and device reprocessing best practices. </li><li>Collaborates with Occupational Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Compliance, Sterile Processing, and clinical departments to mitigate infection risks. </li><li>Drives culture-building initiatives to enhance frontline adherence to infection prevention and HLDS protocols. </li></ul> <p>Leadership & Operational Excellence</p> <ul> <li>Supervises ambulatory and HLDS-focused infection preventionists, assigning work, coaching, monitoring progress, and developing team competencies. </li><li>Organizes and manages site-specific staffing and workflows to ensure productivity, quality, and operational efficiency. </li><li>Ensures adherence to allocated funding and resource utilization. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree Health Sciences required or Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred </li></ul> <p>Licenses and Credentials</p> <ul> <li>Registered Nurse preferred </li><li>Certification in Infection Prevention and Control [CIC] required </li><li>Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology preferred </li><li>HLD/S-related training or certification highly desirable (e.g., CBSPD, IAHCSMM/ISHM, reprocessing competencies) </li></ul> <p>Experience</p> <ul> <li>Three to Five years of experience applying infection prevention and epidemiology programs </li><li>One to Two years of Supervisory/Leadership experience in a healthcare system or hospital required </li><li>Experience in an academic medical center with expertise in ambulatory infection control and HLDS strongly preferred. </li><li>Proficiency with regulatory agencies and requirements (CMS, Joint Commission, OSHA), NHSN surveillance, and quality metrics (Vizient, Leapfrog, CMS). </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Deep knowledge of infection control, epidemiology, microbiology, and HLD/sterilization standards. </li><li>Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. </li><li>Excellent analytical and statistical skills with ability to translate data into actionable insights. </li><li>Skilled in report writing, presentation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. </li><li>Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a complex academic health environment.
