<p>The TRIO SSS Advisor plays a critical role in cultivating an inclusive and welcoming campus community among first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities. This position works directly with TRIO Student Support Services program participants in the areas of assessment, advisement, evaluation and academic advising/instruction. This is a part-time, 19 hours per week position funded 100% through the US Department of Education TRIO Student Support Services grant and is contingent upon annual renewal of the grant.</p> <p>Coconino Community College is a Equal Employment Opportunity </p> <ul> <li>Provides academic, career and financial aid advising to program participants. </li><li>Assists Project Director in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the program. This includes developing, monitoring and approving budgetary expenditures, allocating human and fiscal resources to the program and related activities. </li><li>Gathers data and maintains confidential files of program participants. Uses this data to prepare reports and written narratives according to grant requirements. </li><li>Assists with developing and disseminating program information. </li><li>Provides academic advisement including assisting students with course selection and registration, transfer to 4-year university/college admissions, and financial aid process. </li><li>Works with students dealing with complex academic situations, understanding policy and procedure, and completion of forms and documents. Monitors participants' progress within a particular educational program and formulates plans for student success. </li><li>Makes recommendations or referrals to internal programs and outside agencies if required. </li><li>Serves as a liaison to external departments, groups and agencies. Serves on institutional committees. </li><li>Establishes goals and objectives for the TRIO program and related activities and assists in establishing goals and objectives for the Student Support Services program. </li><li>Assists Project Director in supervising Tutors, and student workers, including hiring, training, evaluations and termination recommendations. </li><li>Coordinates and/or assists with development TRIO SSS tutoring program, study skills workshops, event and field trip coordination. </li><li>Management of student databases (institutional and program specific), management and development of program learning software (Canvas Course). </li><li>Travel between multiple campus sites, as required. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge of student development, career development, academic advising, economic and financial literacy, as well as, retention issues in higher education. Experience in higher education and the community college system. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with groups and individuals of differing cultural or socio-economic backgrounds. Teaching and/or presenting experience to adult learners. Experience with curriculum and academic services development.Based on the grant requirements, this position requires a Bachelor's degree in education or related field and two years directly related experience in student services, academic advising or related field in a higher education setting; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job and/or as approved by the Human Resources Department.</p> <p>Preferred</p> <p>Master's Degree Preferred. Experience with issues confronting high risk students and strategies to address retention. Experience in advising, teaching or supervising individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, including first generation, low-income and/or disabled students as well as experience with student assessment. Preference will be given to those with tutor management experience. Knowledge of current learning theories and practices. Experience with curriculum and academic services development, experience with learning management software (Canvas). Strong written, verbal, analytical and organizational skills. Experience working in a community college. Preference will be given to those with a background similar to Student Support Services' participants.</p>
