Duties include:</p> <ul> <li>Acts as shift supervisor for area assigned and directs and coordinates subordinate staff (both full-time and seasonal) in the performance of the activities described as required; including but not limited to litter control, grounds upkeep & landscaping, snow & ice control, restroom facilities (supplies/cleanliness), and other tasks and/or activities as described </li><li>Coordinates work effort including assistance of skilled trades in the carrying out maintenance and repair projects. </li><li>Operates light trucks, passenger vehicles, tractors, landscape equipment and other small equipment. </li><li>May investigate incidents or unusual occurrences and completes necessary reports. </li><li>Operate industrial wheeled tractors and low center-of-gravity tractors which may be equipped with interchangeable attachments. </li><li>Conducts inspections of assigned area for safety hazards, corrects problems where possible. </li><li>Trains subordinate staff as assigned in the proper use of small hand tools and in the operation of lawn mowing equipment, tractors, power trimmers, etc. </li><li>Loads, moves or unloads materials of varying weights and sizes as required in the performance of duties described. </li><li>Coordinates execution of recreation events and provides evaluations of these events. </li><li>Trains subordinate annual and seasonal staff assigned on how to deal with inquiries concerning park information and how to handle patron complaints. </li><li>Aids park visitors to resolve complaints and situations requiring first aid. </li><li>Operates snow and refuse removal equipment as required and in line with operating needs. </li><li>Conducts inventory of area's needs for tools, small equipment and supplies and submits recommendations to supervisor and may be called upon to get price quotes and prepare purchase requisitions for materials and/or supplies needed. </li><li>Performs other related duties as required. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications One year of experience* in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility.</p> <p>In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR</p> <p>One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR</p> <p>An Associate's or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR</p> <p>Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.</p> <p>Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:</p> <ul> <li>Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. </li></ul> <p>SCHEDULING:</p> <p>We operate sunrise to sunset year-round. The staff works varying schedules to accommodate the needs of the facility. Early shifts may begin as early as 5:30AM and late shifts may stay as late as 10:30PM or 12midnight depending on the function.
