No Section Academic Affairs Number of Positions Available 1 Anticipated Start Date or Semester Posting Date 08/06/2025 End of Temporary or Limited Position Priority given to applicants who apply by Closing Date Open Until Filled No Special Instructions/Information for Applicants</p> <p>Position Status & Special Application Instructions</p> <p>Position Status & Special Application Instructions</p> <p>Min Salary na Max Salary na FLSA Exempt AA / ADA Statement</p> <p>As an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity institution that values and is committed to inclusion and expanding the diversity of its faculty and staff, the College invites members of protected classes, including minorities and persons with disabilities, to identify themselves as such at the time of application.</p> <p>Position Information</p> <p>Position Title Part-Time Reference Librarian Department Name Adams Library Academic or Calendar Year temporary Scheduled Work Week / Hours / Area</p> <p>Part-time, temporary position (Academic Year 2025-2026), 19 hours per week when classes are in session (Mon-Wed, 2:00-7:00PM, and Thurs, 3:00-7:00)</p> <p>Position Overview</p> <p>The individual will be responsible for reference and research assistance to the Rhode Island College campus community and patrons who may use the Library and promote effective use of library resources by students and faculty.</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <ul> <li>Provide reference and research services to Rhode Island College students, faculty, and staff, as well as to community users, which includes but is not limited to instructing users how to search the library's catalog, print resources, electronic databases, and other available information sources. </li><li>Provide general reference service and research support in person, by phone, by email and by chat to patrons. </li><li>Perform basic referral to other campus resources as needed. </li><li>Serve as supervisor and backup to Reference Student Assistants whose shifts overlap with this part time librarian. </li></ul> <p>Occasional Duties</p> <p>Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of the Adams Library and/or the reference librarians.</p> <p>Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of integrated library systems, online databases, LibGuides and MS Office. </li><li>Ability to provide reference service and research support to library patrons. </li><li>Good writing and communications skills. </li><li>Good customer service skills. </li><li>Effective independent and team work skills. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>Education:</p> <p>Master's degree in Library Science, or equivalent degree, from an ALA-accredited program or currently enrolled in an MLS program with coursework in reference completed.</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>Library reference experience.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience providing reference service to college-level students </li><li>Academic library experience. </li><li>Bilingual </li></ul> <p>Environmental Conditions</p> <p>The employee is not exposed to known adverse environmental conditions.</p>
