<p>Overview</p> <p>Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs laboratory testing in any of the various sections of the laboratory, performs control testing and initiates troubleshooting steps for problem areas. The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.</p> <p>Responsible for consulting with other testing personnel, testing supervisors, assistant lab manager or</p> <p>lab manager for assistance in resolving technical problems, decision making and areas of question.</p> <p>Performs testing on blood, urine, and other body fluids. Performs testing in any one or combination of laboratory sections following test methods defined in the procedure manual. Processes Microbiology specimens and interprets test results. Prepares specimens and routes them to appropriate reference labs for all testing not performed in-house. Verifies test results in computer utilizing Outstanding Orders Reports and worksheets and responds appropriately to Delta and Critical (Panic) values. Calculates and tabulates results and makes reports of observations. Assists in keeping files and records up-to-date and orderly. Consistently assures that procedure manuals are orderly and reports discrepancies in procedures. Consults with appropriate personnel regarding difficult analyses or abnormal findings. Performs quality control and instrument check procedures with appropriate documentation. Performs routine and unscheduled preventative maintenance on instruments. Participates in proficiency testing surveys. Reports supplies usage and assists in maintaining an adequate stock of supplies. Receives chain-of-custody specimens and collects chain-of-custody specimens on MMCS employees for cause. Participates in training new employees and MLT students. Performs duties in other departments, including venipuncture, checking charges, scanning, indexing, printing results, as necessary to assure maximum productivity and workflow. Maintains good relations with patients, medical staff, co-workers, other departments and physician offices/homes hat use our services. The above statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements which may be inherent in the position.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>A.S. degree in MLT / B.S. degree in Medical Technology, or chemical, physical or biological science or chemical, physical or biological science with clinical training in a school approved by ASCP.</p> <p>Registered by ASCP preferred.</p> <p>Competency of components of laboratory technology, as appropriate.</p> <p>Good general condition.</p> <p>Verbal ability to communicate with patients and other clientele instructions and other information.</p> <p>Numerical ability to calculate by formula.</p> <p>Form perception, visual acuity in the color spectrum to perform specific lab tests.</p> <p>Dependable.</p>
