<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Special Education Teacher:</p> <p>Certifications: 165, 065, or 265</p> <p>Brooklyn Elementary School is looking for an enthusiastic candidate who can provide engaging and differentiated academic lessons for all subjects to the grade level they are assigned. Teachers will work collaboratively with our special educational team, administration, and classroom support staff to ensure student success.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Uphold administrative regulations, school rules and policies as determined by state and local boards of education and negotiated agreements </li><li>Develop and implement Individual Education plans (IEPs) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and/or social development </li><li>Participate in Planning and Placement (PPT) meetings and use PPT findings to improve the student learning experience </li><li>Attend team and content meetings to better plan for student needs </li><li>Develop and implement strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of disabilities </li><li>Provide specialized instruction based on individual needs outlined in students' IEPs. </li><li>Ability to provide structured literacy instruction for students with learning disabilities </li><li>Play an active role as case manager in the PPT process, including reporting progress on goals/objectives, developing IEPs for annual reviews, and transition planning </li><li>Use district and classroom data to identify support strategies </li><li>Maintain a daily and weekly schedule of class plans and activities </li><li>Evaluate progress and provide data driven reports to other school staff and parents </li><li>Maintain and update cumulative and confidential files of students in the program </li><li>Conduct appropriate follow-up activities with general education teachers concerning students who have participated in the program </li><li>Supervise paraprofessionals assigned to the program </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. </li></ul> <p>Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.</p> <p>Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs. </li><li>Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. </li><li>Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. </li><li>Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. </li><li>Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed. </li><li>Ability to organize and coordinate work. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, students and parents. </li><li>Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. </li><li>Knowledge of CTSeds </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments. </li><li>Masters Degree in Special Education. </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Successful prior special education teaching and/or student teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred. </li></ul>
