<p>Job Description:</p> <p>BASIC FUNCTION:</p> <p>The Department of Cultural, Environmental, and Global Studies (CEGS) at Salve Regina University invites applications for a full-time, Lecturer of Anthropology starting Fall 2026. We seek a colleague with expertise and interest in teaching and advising undergraduates in a joint Sociology/Anthropology major and with specialization in Medical Anthropology. We seek scholars with expertise at the intersection of gender, race and medicine exploring themes related to any of the following: food insecurity, climate change, the experience and distribution of illness, health inequalities in wealth, gender, race, and ethnicity. Our curriculum is aligned with the mission of Salve Regina University that prioritizes social justice, stewardship of the earth, and principled problem-solving.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>This position requires a teaching load of eight courses per academic year and contributes to academic advising and internship coordination. With an emphasis on interdisciplinarity, department members teach courses to all CEGS majors in our integrated departmental core curriculum and the University's honors program. The successful candidate will teach departmental courses in Interpreting Cultural Differences, Social Theory, Global Health and develop courses in the candidate's area of expertise. There are opportunities to develop and lead short-term study abroad courses, short term programs within the Salve Compass Sophomore Summer Program, and to collaborate on projects and participatory action research with colleagues, students, and community partners. All faculty members mentor and advise students in the major. The teaching load is 4/4 with additional commitments to service.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ph.D. in Anthropology</p> </li><li> <p>Degree must be earned prior to the appointment start date.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong background in cultural and medical anthropology as evidenced by teaching experience, dissertation research, publications and/or lectures at conferences.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong Undergraduate Teaching Experience</p> </li><li> <p>Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate level (example syllabi, assignments, and assessments may be requested).</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to teach foundational departmental courses such as:</p> </li><li> <p>Interpreting Cultural Differences</p> </li><li> <p>Medical Inequities</p> </li><li> <p>Global Health</p> </li><li> <p>Social Theory</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to teach interdisciplinary courses shared in the interdisciplinary department such as:</p> </li><li> <p>Research Methods</p> </li><li> <p>Environmental Justice</p> </li><li> <p>Assisting students with internships and senior thesis writing</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to Handle a 4/4 Teaching Load</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated success balancing a full teaching schedule with advising and departmental service.</p> </li><li> <p>Commitment to Academic Advising and Student Mentorship</p> </li><li> <p>Experience supporting undergraduate students through advising, informal mentorship, or supervising independent study projects.</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Community-Engaged Teaching and Research Experience</p> </li><li> <p>Experience integrating community-engaged projects into undergraduate courses.</p> </li><li> <p>Capacity to Develop and Lead Short-Term Study Abroad Programs</p> </li><li> <p>Experience with or interest in leading faculty-led travel courses, immersive field experiences, or global learning trips.</p> </li><li> <p>Contributions to Honors Programs or High-Impact Learning Experiences</p> </li><li> <p>Experience teaching in honors programs, first-year seminars, sophomore experience programs (e.g., Salve Compass), or other high-impact educational practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Record of Scholarly or Applied Research</p> </li><li> <p>Engagement in ongoing scholarship, community-based research, or applied anthropological work that can involve undergraduate students.</p> </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Salve Regina University offers generous benefits to eligible employees including (waiting periods apply):</p> <ul> <li> <p>health, dental and vision coverage available on the first of the month following date of hire</p> </li><li> <p>403(b) retirement plan through TIAA with employee and employer contributions as well as access to advising services</p> </li><li> <p>long-term disability coverage</p> </li><li> <p>employer-paid life and AD&D insurance</p> </li><li> <p>up to 100% free tuition at Salve for eligible employees and qualified dependents</p> </li><li> <p>robust wellness program and free access to the on-campus Fitness Center</p> </li></ul> <p>Other available benefits include:</p> <ul> <li>supplemental life insurance for employees and dependents </li><li>supplemental insurance coverage through Aflac </li><li>Tuition Exchange scholarship program.
