<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Central Office</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>3/30/2026</p> <p>District:</p> <p>  Harper Woods School District  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Harper Woods School District</p> <p>Job Title: Payroll Specialist</p> <p>Location: Central Office</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees working for the Harper Woods School District. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of payroll data. The Payroll Specialist works collaboratively with Human Resources, Finance, and district partners to support payroll operations and resolve discrepancies.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Process bi-weekly payroll for all assigned employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. </li><li>Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, pay adjustments, and benefits deductions. </li><li>Review timesheets, attendance records, and leave balances for accuracy and compliance. </li><li>Integrate the use of Red Rover and import the time for staff using Red Rover for district payroll processing. </li><li>Calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, and other compensation adjustments. </li><li>Ensure compliance with applicable laws, tax regulations, and collective bargaining agreements. </li><li>Prepare and distribute payroll reports, including earnings summaries, tax filings, and audit documentation. </li><li>Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, and tax withholdings. </li><li>Reconcile payroll accounts and assist with internal and external audits. </li><li>Collaborate with HR and Finance to ensure accurate integration of payroll data. </li><li>Stay current with changes in payroll regulations and best practices. </li><li>Balancing and reconciliation of bi-weekly ORS Reports. </li><li>Completion of Retirement Final Detail Reports. </li><li>Monthly reconciliation of medical benefits. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field preferred. </li><li>24 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a public sector or education environment. </li><li>Knowledge of SMART payroll system and software. </li><li>Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements. </li><li>High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills. </li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. </li><li>Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism. </li><li>Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions:</p> <p>Office-based environment with standard business hours.</p> <p>Occasional extended hours during peak payroll periods or audits.</p> <p>Benefits:</p> <p>Competitive salary based on experience.</p> <p>Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance w/ 20% employee contribution.</p> <p>Participation in a public retirement system.</p> <p>Paid time off and holidays.</p> <p>Terms of Employment:</p> <p>12-month full-time, 40 hours a week/avg.</p> <p>Evaluation:</p> <p>Performance for this position will be evaluated at least annually.</p> <p>Deadline:</p> <p>Until Filled</p> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer:</p> <p>Harper Woods School District is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
