Lifelong literacy services are provided by Project Read at the Main Library and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (GMCLC).</p> <p>THE POSITION</p> <p>This classification is distinguished from all other Library classifications by its responsibility for program development and implementation in coordinating the day-to-day operation of a literacy program, and by the degree of initiative and independence necessary to oversee the coordination of resources and materials. They are skilled in coordinating programs, supporting learners and volunteers, and delivering high-quality, learner-centered services to diverse communities. This individual demonstrates strong judgment, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while working both independently and collaboratively. They are effective communicators who build strong partnerships with staff, community organizations, and participants, and are comfortable assessing learner needs, supporting instruction, and facilitating training. The ideal candidate is organized, with the ability to maintain accurate records, track outcomes, and ensure compliance with program requirements. They are experienced with grant-funded programs, including the ability to support grant writing efforts, monitor expenditures, collect and report data, and ensure compliance with applicable grant requirements and regulations.</p> <p>Schedule is 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday. Occasional irregular hours, including nights and weekends, may be required based on operational needs.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>Three years of progressively more responsible professional experience in an adult literacy, adult education, or an educational setting.</p> <p>Training:</p> <p>A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in education, social science, human services, or a related field.</p> <p>Licenses and Certificates:</p> <p>All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.</p> <p>Possession of a valid, appropriate California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.</p> <p>THE APPLICATION PROCESS:</p> <p>To be considered, applicants must submit the following REQUIRED items at the time of application:</p> <ul> <li>City application </li><li>Responses to the supplemental questionnaire </li></ul> <p>NOTE: Applications must be completed in full. Social Security and Medicare participation and the option to participate in 457 deferred compensation plans. City contributes equivalent of 1.5% of base pay towards a medical after-retirement account.</p> <p>Health Insurance: City offers a choice of medical HMO (two providers) or PPO plan, and offers vision and dental coverage. City pays 100% of vision and dental premiums for employee and eligible dependents. Employees shall contribute 10% of the HMO premium cost based on category of coverage (single, two, family). For PPO, employee pays cost difference between PPO and HMO plans. City provides 100% City-paid short- and long-term disability insurances.
