<p>Hiring Department</p> <p>MizzouRec Services and Facilities is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides quality leisure experiences to all members of the campus community, primarily Mizzou students. Through our facilities and programs, we strive to bring our members and guests an environment that inspires and promotes a healthy, active lifestyle. MizzouRec enhances the student experience by creating a sense of "third place" and belonging with its vast services, facilities, and programming - in addition to its unique connection to campus history and traditions.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>NOTE: This is a summer-only position with employment dates from May 18 - August 23, 2026.</p> <p>Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. This position requires good recognition and decision-making skills and the ability to work with little supervision. Individuals must be assertively friendly and have an extensive working knowledge about facilities and services. This individual must remain American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certified during course of position.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Ensure patron safety at all times. </li><li>Be prepared to act quickly and correctly at all times, especially in time of emergency. </li><li>Know and consistently enforce the rules and regulations of the Mizzou Aquatic Center. </li><li>Maintaining current knowledge of policies, procedures, and events in the facility. </li><li>Follow established communication protocols with direct supervisor, Aquatic Leads, and Team Mizzou coworkers. </li><li>Attend all in-service and staff training sessions. </li><li>Maintain ability to perform all necessary skills in accordance with American Red Cross Lifeguarding and MizzouRec standards. </li><li>Communicate any broken or dysfunctional equipment immediately to Aquatic Leads or professional staff. </li><li>Adhere to all University, MizzouRec, Team Mizzou, and area-specific guidelines. </li></ul> <p>Anticipated Hiring Range</p> <p>Salary: $15.50 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis.</p> <p>University Title: High School Student</p> <p>Internal applicants can determine their University title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.</p> <p>Shift</p> <p>Average numbers of weekly hours: 10-25.</p> <p>2-hour shifts between 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.</p> <p>This is a summer-only position, with employment dates from May 18 - August 23, 2026.</p> <p>This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>To be eligible for this position, applicants must be current high school students and be willing to work during the summer months. Selection is contingent upon successful completion of reference checks and any required employment eligibility verifications.</p> <p>Pre-employment testing of lifeguarding skills and knowledge is required.</p> <p>Current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED or willing to be trained or crossed over.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Basic risk management experience in an aquatic facility setting.</p> <p>Application Materials</p> <p>Complete application, and upload the following: résumé, certification (if applicable), cover letter, and 3 or more employer references (if available). The individual demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior, acts responsibly with the interests of the larger community in mind and is able to learn from their mistakes. </li><li>Career Management: Identify and articulate one's skills, strengths, knowledge and experiences relevant to the position desired and career goals, and identify areas necessary for professional growth.
