<p>Thank you for considering a career at Mercy Health!</p> <p>Scheduled Weekly Hours:</p> <p>32</p> <p>Work Shift:</p> <p>All (United States of America)</p> <p>Mercy Health West Hospital</p> <p>Endoscopy Technician - Full Time</p> <p>Assist nursing staff with procedures under the direction of an RN, clerical support, cleaning endoscopes, preparing room for procedures, transporting patients, stocking work areas and procedure rooms, assisting RN in transporting specimens, obtaining necessary supplies from Central Service. Maintains a clean, safe environment for patients, visitors and personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Assists with procedure and patient care under the direct supervision of an RN and Physician. In order to report pertinent observations to RN, demonstrates working knowledge of reasons for tests, procedures, treatments and potential signs and symptoms of complications. Performs skills only after demonstrating competency: connect patient to vital signs monitor, knowledge and ability to take vital signs, knowledge of abnormal values for vital signs. Acts rapidly and calmly during emergencies, initiates CPR and provides necessary items required by the clinician. Responsible for procedure room turn over, transportation of patients, assist patients in dressing ad undressing for procedures, and securing patient belongings as necessary. Assists the doctor in the procedure by: passing and operating forceps and snares, retrieving and collecting specimens and labeling those specimens appropriately and correctly. </li><li>Serves as a positive role model, maintains a positive attitude, and participates in unit governance activities. Responds to schedule responsibilities with timeliness. Contributes to unit performance improvement activities. Attend departmental in-services and meetings. Maintains the integrity of unit equipment (cleaning, repairs, QA). Responsible for cleaning and stocking procedure rooms, ensuring supply inventory and linens. Completes unit assignments as requested. </li><li>Cleans, disinfects, dries and maintains Endoscopy equipment. Performs evaluations for malfunction of endoscopes. Working knowledge of all equipment in the department. Notifies clinical coordinator / manager of instruments needing repair. Clean and package equipment to be sterilized and delivered to Central supply. Follows hospital policy by wearing personal protective devices. </li><li>Ensures beds are in appropriate position, locked at all times, and side rails remain in up position. Ensures that needed articles, including the call light are within reach. Maintains safety while assisting patients in moving, sitting or ambulating. Ensures patients are secured appropriately when transported. Maintains proper body mechanics. Keeps unit dry, clean and orderly. Uses good hand washing and aseptic technique. Follows universal precautions and adheres to isolation procedures. Safety hazards are corrected and reported to the appropriate person. Assures appropriate equipment for the next day is available. </li><li>Orients patient and family to the hospital environment and services provided. Transports patient to procedure room and assures patient is comfortable and oriented to surroundings. Written communication is accurate, concise and timely.
