<p>The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine invites applications for a PhD-level Education Research Specialist to support and advance innovation in medical education, curriculum development, and research methodology.</p> <p>ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Faculty Development - Collaborate with the Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs to assess department needs for faculty development and prioritize topics, plan and organize faculty development seminars and programs; develop and implement innovative teaching sessions; provide information and access to faculty development opportunities and offerings available within the college and university. </li><li>Educational Research and Grant Development - Provide leadership for initiatives in the scholarship of teaching, publish innovations in education in scholarly journals, and preparing grant applications; collaborate with faculty to develop, design and conduct educational research, and report results through posters, publications and presentations; assist faculty in teaching and educational research on national and international levels; investigate opportunities that support educational research; direct development of the science of learning in anesthesia education; assist with assessment studies of curriculum and program outcomes. </li><li>Mentoring Leadership: Plan, coordinate, implement and direct mentoring programs within the department including faculty mentoring of new faculty, faculty mentoring of residents, and resident peer mentoring (residents mentoring new residents). Develop and facilitate mentoring advisory committee to provide oversight of mentoring processes and plans. </li><li>Educational Innovation and Curriculum Development- Provide leadership for introducing and monitoring contemporary teaching/learning strategies into the professional program as described in ACGME accreditation standards; advocate for innovative technologies to enhance teaching/learning; address teaching/learning needs with respect to individual student issues raised during monitoring and/or reporting of student progress; assist faculty when incorporating technologies in instruction, curriculum, and assessment; implement and evaluate curricular innovations; facilitate instructional development, exploration of innovative learning strategies with individuals and groups. Assist Rotation Directors and program coordinators with assessment and evaluation support to ensure rotations are meeting ACGME and ABA requirements. </li><li>Department Education Activity Leadership - Provide leadership to support educational innovation, assessment, and clinical education development; advise chair, program director, associate program directors and program evaluation committee with respect to resource allocation and efforts to develop teaching activities; attend faculty meetings and the annual program evaluation; facilitate program evaluation committee meetings; actively participate in decision-making, process, policy development and revision of process as related to educational innovation and assessment and departmental goals. This position requires participation with GME programs CCC and PEC. </li><li>National Meeting Participation - The successful candidate will be expected to attend and present education research with department education leadership at national meetings. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Requires a Doctoral degree in Education or equivalent. Study in the fields of Educational Psychology, Learning Sciences and Curriculum & Instruction are favorable, but not required.</p> </li><li> <p>Research experience is required.
