<p>Responsibilities for this Position</p> <p>Robotic Welding Engineer</p> <p>US-CT-Groton</p> <p>Job ID: 2025-14261</p> <p>Type: Full-Time</p> <p># of Openings: 1</p> <p>Category: Engineering</p> <p>EB Groton Shipyard</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>The D341 Structural Welding Engineering Construction Support group provides technical support and regulatory services to Electric Boats Quonset Point (QP) facility core business, welding. D341 retains technical cognizance of and provides interpretation to procedures and specifications, as well as regulates the welding program by directly integrating with all related Electric Boat customers. D341 has recently expanded in scope and is now providing oversightand retaining technical cognizance of robotic welding and facility robotic expansion. D341 is looking for a qualified engineering candidate that exhibits the ability to provide hardware and software technical support for applicable robotic welding installations, carry out problem resolution activities, write technical dispositions, lead special projects, and carry out quality corrective action tasks. Regular responsibilities of the qualified candidate include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Retaining technical ownership of robotic welding installations and applicable written processes </li><li>Programming robots to allow for industrial robotic welding in a fully operational production environment </li><li>Working directly with operations to ensure efficient operation of robotic welding installations </li><li>Supporting robotic welding installation upgrades with external vendors to allow Electric Boat to have the advantage in structural submarine fabrication </li><li>Conduct on-job structural welding surveillances to ensure procedural compliance in robotic work centers </li><li>Providing technical guidance for the application of all major welding processes (GMAW, SMAW, SAW, TSAW, and GTAW) </li><li>Writing technical dispositions in support of development activities, Welding Engineering instructions, and external customer submittals </li><li>Maintaining procedural and specification compliance oversight for submarine structural documents (NAVSEA specifications, Electric Boat standard procedures, and design drawings) </li><li>Performing root cause analyses and evaluating problem resolution strategies for a wide variety of issues as required </li><li>Coordinating with peer engineering organizations to provide immediate support functional area leads in operations </li><li>Coordinating with functional area leads to identify opportunities for process improvement </li><li>Supporting upper management performance tracking goals by maintaining D341 cognizant data inputs and reports </li></ul> <p>The qualified candidate will report to the D341 Structural Welding Engineering Supervisor at Electric Boats North Kingstown, RI location (Quonset Point).</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Excellent oral and written communication skills </li><li>Work effectively individually and in teams </li><li>Experience with technical writing (procedures, reports, briefings, memos, other submittals) </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelors degree or higher in Robotic Engineering, Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software or Computer Engineering </li><li>4+ years of experience working with welding Robots or Cobots </li><li>Strong background in coding with any major language </li><li>Advanced computer skills including the use of Microsoft products </li><li>Must be able to read wiring diagrams and mechanical diagrams </li><li>Must be able to interpret drawings/blueprints </li><li>Must be able to read and interpret company policies and procedures </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Advanced degree in Robotic Engineering, Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Software or Computer Engineering </li><li>Experience in an industrial welding environment, shipbuilding, or other heavy fabrication </li><li>Familiar with RobotStudio Suite </li><li>Familiar with RAPID program coding language </li><li>Previous experience working with ABB Robotics and/or working with an ABB installed robot in a fully operational production environment </li><li>Strong understanding of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) </li><li>Knowledge of applicable military standards and welding fabrication specifications </li><li>Prior welding experience </li></ul>
