<p>About the Job</p> <p>This position is in a laboratory of Dr. Michael Lee who is interested defining the</p> <p>pathologic mechanisms for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and Parkinson's Disease (PD)</p> <p>using cellular and transgenic mouse models. The candidate will assist the Principal</p> <p>Investigator by performing duties related to characterizing neuropathology in animal</p> <p>models.</p> <p>(45% effort) Perform histological analysis of mouse brain. Perform euthanasia and</p> <p>fixation of mouse brain. Prepare fixed brain for frozen or paraffin sections. Perform</p> <p>paraffin embedding of tissues and generate paraffin sections. Generate frozen sections</p> <p>on sliding microtome for stereological analysis. Perform histochemical and</p> <p>immunohistochemical analysis. Generate sections for RNA based analysis</p> <p>(RNAscope, GoeMx, CosMx) and perform simple RNAscope procedures.</p> <p>(30 % effort) Perform imagine and quantitative analysis of stained sections.</p> <p>Perform whole slide scanning using Motic Slide Scanner of stained slides for analysis.</p> <p>Learn and perform quantitative analysis of stained slides using Image J and/or HALO</p> <p>image analysis system. Learn and perform quantitative analysis using Microbrightfield</p> <p>Stereology system. Image immunofluorescence sections via widefield</p> <p>immunofluorescence or confocal microscopy.</p> <p>(20 % effort) Maintain histology infrastructure. Regular maintenance of paraffin</p> <p>processing/embedding equipment. Ensure that required service contracts and software</p> <p>licenses need for histological studies are up to date. Work with vendors to trouble shoot</p> <p>any problems with the software and/or equipment. Arrange for any service if needed.</p> <p>Train new staff on the proper histological/immunohistochemical techniques and the</p> <p>proper use of equipment.</p> <p>(5% effort) Prepare weekly progress to present at weekly lab meetings.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>All required qualifications must be included in the application materials</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience or related field (e.g. Biology, Psychology) plus at least two years of relevant experience, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years. </li><li>Previous experience work with mice </li><li>Must be willing to work with mouse model of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's Disease. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Certification in scientific or medical histology. </li><li>Prior experience in histological analysis, particularly rodent brains. </li><li>Familiarity with Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease </li></ul> <p>About the Department</p> <p>The Department of Neuroscience is committed to providing excellence in research, education, and public service.
