<p>Cohasset Middle School is a high performing Grade 6 - 8 school with approximately 350 students. The school is attached to the High School and located outside of Boston on the South Shore. The Principal position is one which promotes the school and district mission and vision by providing instructional leadership to staff including curriculum implementation and professional development. The position also is one of ensuring the welfare of students and staff in a safe, pleasant and effective educational atmosphere providing discipline as necessary; and by enforcing school and district policies geared to the developmental appropriateness of middle learners. It supports and provides guidance to staff and students in meeting the requirements that benefit school structure and environment in a strong academic environment. The Principal reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools and is responsible for the educational leadership and management of programs. The Principal is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of the faculty. The Principal also works collaboratively with the High School Principal and the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to provide leadership and guidance for the school and its students in such responsibilities as outlined. The Principal of Cohasset Middle School is expected to be a contributing member of a strong district-wide leadership team.</p> <p>Qualifications and Responsibilities</p> <p>Leadership in Environment and Culture:</p> <ul> <li>Sets and prioritizes school-wide vision and goals aligned with the District Strategic Plan. </li><li>Cultivates a diverse and equitable instructional environment based on cultural proficiency standards. </li><li>Provides an accessible strong presence and demonstrate leadership by example </li><li>Is accessible and present for school events. </li><li>Collaborates well with whole school and district level staff. </li><li>Understands the principal's role in establishing and maintaining a safe and secure school environment. </li><li>Encourages and develops parent/guardian involvement/partnerships; and deals effectively with the community. </li><li>Demonstrates leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, community partners, and families. </li><li>Is creative, organized, and able to work with a staff in need of leadership support </li><li>Maintains a safe, harmonious, productive, and professional learning community of students, teachers, and support staff. </li></ul> <p>Administration:</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for all matters related to teaching and learning at the Middle School. </li><li>Oversees the preparation of a master schedule and a program of studies. </li><li>Submits total school inventories, budgets, requisitions, and purchase orders as required. </li><li>Work closely with the Superintendent and Administration to ensure curricular, financial, practices, and policies are adequate at the Middle School. </li><li>Conducts administrative and faculty meetings that may be necessary for improving such practices and procedures which will improve the effectiveness of the operations of the total Middle School program. </li><li>Keeps informed of changes and developments in the profession. </li><li>Performs other duties as determined by the Superintendent and/or his designee. </li></ul> <p>Professional Learning Community:</p> <ul> <li>Oversees the implementation of the Middle School Improvement Plan. Revises school improvement plan annually. </li><li>Oversees the evaluation process for all middle school faculty, to include conducting classroom visitations, consulting with content area leaders, and issuing written evaluations and improvement plans in accordance with district policies. </li><li>Participates in hiring of all Middle School staff. </li><li>Oversees the Middle School implementation of teaming and collaborative interdisciplinary instructional practices including the coordination of staff, implementation of programs, and preparation of related documents and data. </li></ul> <p>Communication and Collaboration:</p> <ul> <li>Communicates professionally with central office administration, the school committee, teachers, parents, students and the community. </li><li>Collaborates with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs. </li></ul> <p>Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Assumes responsibility as the middle school curriculum, instruction, and assessment educational leader. </li><li>Disaggregates and analyzes data to recognize trends in learning and achievement. </li><li>Maintains and improves the school's education programs/curriculum to meet the needs of high schoolers. </li><li>Co-plans and encourages professional development of all staff and teachers. </li><li>Coordinates PD in alignment with district goals and in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. </li><li>Ensures the school meets or surpasses educational requirements/standards. </li><li>Facilitates the implementation of Project Based Learning (PBL), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Massachusetts Tiered System of Support (MTSS). </li><li>Works collaboratively with the Director of Student Services to promote increased co-teaching professional development and classroom instruction. </li><li>Conducts curriculum framework alignment and development of curricular for various content areas. </li></ul>
