<p>Job Purpose:</p> <p>This position provides coverage, as needed, of wastewater treatment operations to treat and discharge process water in accordance with all regulations and permit conditions.</p> <p>Pay Range: $29.60-$37.00</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Supporting four critical areas (Pollution Control Facility, Tumble Liquids Treatment, Heat Treat Neutralization, and the Oil Recovery Ultra-filtration Area) </li><li>Operating filter presses and ultra-filtration equipment </li><li>Replenishing chemicals, handling hazardous waste by-products </li><li>Maintaining industrial pre-treatment license requirements (i.e. 20 TCH's every two (2) years) </li><li>Flexible coverage of wastewater operator shifts as needed. Willingness to work 3rd shift strongly preferred. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Experience, Competencies and Education</p> </li><li> <p>High School/GED</p> </li><li> <p>1 year of experience in wastewater treatment strongly preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Language Skills</p> </li><li> <p>Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal communication and interpretation</p> </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <ul> <li>Occasional: bending, kneeling, squatting, standing, walking, reaching, overhead reaching, and fine motor skills </li><li>Occasional lifting: 20 to 30 pounds </li><li>Frequent lifting: 5 to 20 pounds </li><li>Maximum lifting: to 55 pounds </li></ul> <p>PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:</p> <ul> <li>Mandatory wearing of certified ANSI approved safety glasses and hearing protection </li><li>The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department </li><li>Employees are required to apply ergonomic correctness to all job tasks </li><li>May be required depending on position: </li><li>Annual vision update in Medical Department </li><li>Involvement in the hearing conservation program </li><li>Involvement in the lead surveillance program </li><li>Wearing of safety certified shoes/boots </li><li>Participation in the stretching program </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <ul> <li>Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. </li></ul> <p>Revised: 3/24/2026</p> <p>Position Overview:</p> <p>This position works in a team environment supporting the Environmental & Safety Manager with the operation of a continuous flow chemical precipitation pre-treatment plant.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>Once trained, essential duties for this position include the following - other duties may be assigned:</p> <ul> <li>Supporting four critical areas (Pollution Control Facility, REM Treatment Area, Heat Treat Neutralization, and the Oil Recovery Ultra-Filtration Area) to ensure regulatory compliance </li><li>Running filter presses and ultra-filtration equipment </li><li>Replenishing chemicals, handling hazardous waste by-products and chemical transportation of small volumes with a forklift </li><li>Conducting and logging routine audits of environmental and safety equipment on a daily, weekly and monthly basis </li><li>Maintaining industrial pre-treatment license requirements (i.e. 20 TCH's every two (2) years) </li></ul> <p>NOTE: This list presents only the principal duties of the position and is not intended to be comprehensive. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as dictated by the business needs and conditions.</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High School/ GED required </li><li>Completion of vocational academic program or certification program preferred </li><li>Basic science, math and/or chemistry background preferred </li><li>Massachusetts Grade 4 Industrial Wastewater Operator License Required </li><li>RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Certification preferred </li></ul> <p>Competencies and Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Must have strong command of the English language </li><li>Must be able to read, write and interpret the English language </li><li>Must be able to communicate in English verbally and in writing (verbal instructions, written memos and instructions) </li><li>Basic computer skills preferred </li><li>Must have mechanical aptitude </li><li>Knowledge of electronics/electricity preferred </li><li>Excellent conceptual skills, functional and technical skills, controls and instrumentation skills, attention to detail, and judgment preferred </li><li>Ability to problem solve independently </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, push, pull, carry, reach, twist </li><li>Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds </li><li>NOTE: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:</p> <p>Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.</p> <p>The following Personal Protective Equipment is required:</p> <ul> <li>Safety glasses with side shields, Company approved safety footwear and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor </li></ul> <p>The use of additional chemical specific personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department.</p> <p>Revised 8.30.22</p>
