Situated within the Investments Technology department, this role directly impacts quantitative research, investment strategy, and front-office execution, ensuring seamless integration with production systems.</p> <p>This role requires close collaboration with research analysts, portfolio managers, traders, and technologists to develop and optimize technology solutions that enhance portfolio management, research, and risk management tools and platforms. These solutions are essential for driving data-driven investment decisions and improving operational efficiency across the front office.</p> <p>As part of the new Front Office Enablement team, the Front Office Enablement Engineer will design and implement resilient, scalable platforms that support both investment performance and product development. The role involves working on real-time, performance-sensitive systems, particularly around valuation, risk analysis, and optimization. These solutions must be robust, trusted, and responsive under high-pressure deadlines and stringent regulatory oversight.</p> <p>The Front Office Enablement Engineer will also ensure that the technology aligns with business objectives, driving operational excellence and ensuring regulatory compliance in all systems. The work enables investment professionals to manage portfolios effectively and supports the growth of Assets Under Management (AUM).</p> <p>The salary range in MN for this role is $136,411 to $184,556.</p> <p>Job Responsibilities and Duties</p> <p>Engineering & Infrastructure</p> <ul> <li>Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable infrastructure to support proprietary research and trading workflows. </li><li>Architect and implement robust software packages and tools used by front-office teams, ensuring performance, maintainability, and compliance. </li><li>Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and infrastructure-as-code environments (e.g., Terraform, YAML). </li><li>Support deployment and lifecycle management of front-end tools (e.g., R Shiny apps) and internal Python/R packages. </li></ul> <p>Front-Office Collaboration</p> <ul> <li>Work side-by-side with quants, traders, and portfolio managers to enable investment models. </li><li>Translate research prototypes into production-ready tools, ensuring alignment with investment objectives and technical standards. </li><li>Act as a thought partner to front office professionals on technical architecture, data strategy, and tool design. </li></ul> <p>Data & Model Enablement</p> <ul> <li>Work with other technologists and data engineers to build and maintain data pipelines for large-scale datasets beyond standard vendor integrations. </li><li>Enable model development through tooling that supports machine learning, optimization, and statistical analysis. </li><li>Ensure data integrity, traceability, and performance across research and production environments. </li></ul> <p>Application Lifecycle Support</p> <ul> <li>Provide support for critical production systems. </li><li>Collaborate with other engineers and architects to ensure seamless integration with enterprise systems and compliance with IT general controls. </li></ul> <p>Leadership Competencies</p> <ul> <li>Model Thrivent's leadership competencies - Model the Way, Rally the Team, and Deliver Outcomes. </li><li>Support and/or develop an environment in which Thrivent employees and colleagues are focused on continuous improvement, exceptional employee engagement, and an unwavering commitment to our clients. Shape and/or support a culture that represents the Thrivent purpose, promise and values, ensuring that Thrivent's trust and reputation remain strong with its clients. </li></ul> <p>Job Qualifications</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Math, or a related technical field. </li><li>5+ years of experience in software engineering or data engineering, preferably in a front-office or quantitative environment. </li><li>Experience in programming languages such as C# or Java. </li><li>Proficiency in SQL, Python and /or R, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI). </li><li>Strong understanding of machine learning, optimization, and statistical computing. </li><li>Experience with DevOps, GitOps, and CI/CD practices for building and distributing reliable software. </li><li>Familiarity with data engineering concepts, including large-scale data pipelines, orchestration, and reconciliation. </li><li>Deep quantitative and technical expertise, strong collaboration skills, and a practical understanding of front office workflows in a dynamic trading environment. </li><li>Strong troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a cross functional team, iterating on solutions while providing support for production systems. </li><li>Demonstrated critical thinking abilities to assess application system and design changes. </li><li>Successful track record of making impactful decisions to evaluate business and technical environments and develop technical solutions. </li><li>Familiarity with general IT controls and regulatory requirements for system design and implementation. </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree or advanced coursework in quantitative finance, engineering, or data science. </li><li>Experience working in asset management, hedge funds, or trading environments. </li><li>Familiarity with financial instruments, portfolio analytics, and investment workflows. </li><li>Exposure to R Shiny, cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS), and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). </li><li>Proven experience advocating for IT general controls, change management, and secure coding practices with front office stakeholders. </li><li>Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. </li></ul> <p>Other</p> <p>Thrivent is unique in our commitment to helping people to be wise with money and live balanced and generous lives.
