<p>Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium</p> <p>Interpretation and Visitor Experiences Manager</p> <p>Job Title: Interpretation and Visitor Experiences Manager</p> <p>FLSA Status: Exempt</p> <p>Hours: Full-time</p> <p>Pay Rate: Starts at $60,560/year</p> <p>Summary:</p> <p>The Interpretation and Visitor Experiences Manager is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Community Learning and Engagement. This role oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of engaging, mission-aligned visitor experience programs and on-grounds interpretation at both the Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park (WSP). The position is key in promoting the Zoo and WSP's mission, goals, and values by ensuring positive experiences for visitors, volunteers, and staff. Through dynamic, educational programming, the Interpretation and Visitor Experiences Manager fosters meaningful connections between guests and the natural world, supporting wildlife and habitat conservation.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):</p> <ul> <li>Promote positive and impactful visitor experiences by delivering conservation-focused messaging to guests of all ages throughout the Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park, ensuring personal connections to the Zoo/WSP and its mission through a variety of programs. </li><li>Design, develop and implement revenue-generating, inclusive experiences and programs that provide personal, facilitated experiences for visitors. </li><li>Develop and maintain engaging messaging and content for public programs, presentations, and tours; regularly review and update program materials to ensure relevance and accuracy. </li><li>Oversee all aspects of the Zooventure Passport Program including the development of interactive station activities, coordination of activity props with the Graphics Department, passport content development, budget management, and the recruitment, hiring, and training of the part-time seasonal Zooventure Coordinator and approximately 40 high school work-study Zooventure Guides. </li><li>Manage the implementation of the Zoo-wide interpretation plan including staff training, consistent and mission-aligned messaging, and the creation of content for interpretive graphics and exhibits. </li><li>Oversee the Lead Interpretive Guide and Interpretive Guides with responsibilities including recruitment, training, scheduling, regular performance observations, evaluations, and the ongoing support and professional development of staff. </li><li>Collaborate with the Visitor Experience Research and Evaluation Manager to assess the impact and effectiveness of visitor experience programs, ensuring continuous improvement based on data and visitor feedback. </li><li>Provide excellent customer service to general visitors through interpersonal and communication skills. </li><li>Work cooperatively with animal care staff to ensure ambassador animals are utilized with appropriate messaging during public programs. </li><li>Works with Marketing Department to promote all visitor experience programs at the Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park to the public. </li><li>Assist in preparation of grant proposals and newsletter articles (e-news, Facebook, and Zooprints). </li><li>Assist with other Education duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in education, environmental education, biology, museum studies, communications, or a related field preferred. </li><li>Demonstrated excellence in leadership, communication, decision-making, initiative, strategic planning, and relationship-building, with a strong commitment to safety. </li><li>Proven ability to engage and work effectively with diverse audiences across all age groups and backgrounds. </li><li>Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; working knowledge of volunteer management systems. </li><li>Experience in supervising, mentoring, and motivating staff or volunteers. </li><li>Strong commitment to excellence and high professional standards. </li><li>Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. </li><li>Excellent public speaking and presentation abilities. </li><li>Ability to collaborate with all levels of management and cross-functional teams. </li><li>Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills. </li><li>Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing demands. </li><li>Flexible, enthusiastic, and able to work in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. </li><li>Sound judgment and the ability to make timely, well-informed decisions. </li><li>Understanding of budget development, monitoring, and financial oversight. </li><li>Experience in grant writing and grant management. </li><li>Must successfully pass a drug screening and background check (including a good driving record). </li><li>Flexibility in scheduling: ability to work weekends, holidays and after-hour assignments as necessary. The regular work week for this position will include one weekend day. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions and Physical Effort:</p> <ul> <li>The employee will frequently have to travel between two different locations - Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium and the Wildlife Safari Park located in Ashland, Nebraska. </li><li>Must be able to walk long distances across the Zoo and WSP in varied weather conditions. </li><li>Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head, and climb. </li><li>Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods. </li></ul> <p>DISCLAIMER</p> <p>The information presented indicates the general nature and level of work expected of employees in this classification.
