<p>The Chemistry Laboratory Technician supports the safe operation of the teaching and research laboratories in the Department of Chemistry at Carthage College. Working under the guidance of the Chemistry Lab Manager, this part-time laboratory technician assists in preparing laboratory materials, maintaining equipment and supplies, and helping to ensure a safe and well-organized environment for students and faculty. Availability to work 20-25 hours, including evenings, is desired.</p> <p>In collaboration with the Chemistry Lab Manager and the Department of Chemistry faculty, the technician plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of safety and responsibility in the teaching labs. This position supports Carthage's hands-on, student-focused laboratory experiences and contributes to the day-to-day efficiency of the department's instructional and research activities.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Assist in preparing and assembling materials, chemical reagents, solutions, and equipment needed for undergraduate chemistry laboratory courses, following all safety and chemical hygiene protocols. </li><li>Collaborate with faculty, staff, and the Chemistry Lab Manager to determine laboratory setup requirements to meet laboratory and course needs. </li><li>Collaborate with student workers on proper laboratory techniques, safety procedures, and equipment usage. </li><li>Distribute and collect laboratory supplies, glassware, chemicals, and equipment before and after lab sessions, restock supplies and maintain organized stockroom and laboratory spaces. </li><li>Promote a culture of safety and responsibility by helping enforce laboratory safety standards, monitoring chemical hygiene practices, and ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory safety polices. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Education</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field </li></ul> <p>Minimum Experience</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of two years of related job experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably within a post-secondary academic environment, including handling and disposal of chemical substances and hazardous materials. </li></ul> <p>Apply Online</p> <p>About Carthage</p> <p>Located on the shore of Lake Michigan in the thriving Chicago-Milwaukee corridor, Carthage College blends the best liberal arts traditions with desirable degree programs, transformative learning opportunities, and personal attention from dedicated faculty and staff.
